NFL 25/12-26/12/2021: Green Bay Packers host Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots face Buffalo Bills

We are still waiting for clarity on how the playoff picture is looking. However, with the end of the regular season in sight, there are some crunch games to look forward to over Christmas. In this preview, we will assess three matchups, including the Green Bay Packers v Cleveland Browns, and the New England Patriots v Buffalo Bills. We will also provide the match odds.

Green Bay Packers enjoy thrilling victory over Baltimore Ravens

There was some late drama for the Packers last weekend against the Ravens. It looked as if the Ravens had pulled off a stunning comeback, but quarterback Tyler Huntley missed his two-point conversion. The Packers held on for a 31-30 victory, but it was a momentous win as Aaron Rodgers joined Brett Favre as the franchise’s record touchdown passer.

The Packers officially became the first team to make the playoffs, as they secured their third consecutive NFC North divisional title. But for the Ravens, it will have been a case of what could have been, and they made a mistake which came to cost them. For the Packers, it’s just a case of tweaking a few things ahead of the playoffs.

Cleveland Browns back on track after win over Baltimore Ravens

After a few days to recover, the Ravens will be ready to go ahead of a big week. Before they take on the Packers, they face the Las Vegas Raiders. However, there are currently two players on the Covid list — Baker Mayfield and Case Keenum — and they appear to be unlikely to be ready in time to face the Packers.

New England Patriots on the rebound after defeat to Indianapolis Colts

After coming off the back of a bye week, the Patriots had an off day against the Colts, as they slipped to a 27-17 loss. And centre David Andrews was in no doubt what contributed to the Patriots’ loss. He said: “Eight penalties and two turnovers is not going to win you a lot of football games.”

Bill Belichick may be happy to take a more conservative approach

For the Patriots, there’s no need to panic, but clearly, changes will need to be made. It is unlikely there will be a knee-jerk reaction, but Patriots coach Bill Belichick may have to be more conservative with the odd decision here or there. Belichick will be hoping to see his side bounce back this weekend against the Buffalo Bills.

Josh Allen plays starring role as Buffalo Bills overpower Carolina Panthers

The Bills look to be back on track. This was illustrated in their much-needed 31-14 win over the Panthers last Sunday. Josh Allen unsurprisingly took centre stage once again as he threw three touchdowns. The Panthers, in the meantime, had been in a serious rut after losing four consecutive games.

Although the Bills relied heavily upon their defence, there were many pleasing aspects to their victory over the Panthers. Going into their big clash with the Patriots, the Bills are second in the AFC East table, with an 8-6 record.

As things stand, the Bills have a strong chance of making the playoffs. However, they are one of five teams in the conference with an 8-6 record, and so it will be nip and tuck to see who makes the playoffs. Nevertheless, one thing in the Bills’ advantage, is that they have a better win percentage than the Ravens in common games.

Cincinnati Bengals looking good for playoff spot

Cincinnati Bengals took their record to 8-6, and they are first place in the AFC North. A 15-10 victory over the Denver Broncos showed the kind of defence that is required to be a true contender to lift the Super Bowl. There were some amazing sequences, including a 58-yard field goal by Bengals’ kicker Evan McPherson just before half-time.

Meanwhile, the Ravens will be eager to erase the defeat to the Packers from their minds. Nevertheless, they contributed in many ways to that game, and they came very close to pulling off a sensational comeback. It seems like it could be quite tricky to pick a winner from the Bengals and Ravens.
