NHL 4-6/03/2022: New York Islanders, St Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, and Colorado Avalanche in action

There have been some incredible performances over the past week in the NHL. The Boston Bruins’ 7-0 mauling of Los Angeles Kings was one of them. This week, we will feast our eyes on three huge games — New York Islanders v St Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche v Calgary Flames, and Minnesota Wild v Dallas Stars.

New York Islanders keen to get things back on the track

New York Islanders will be pretty disappointed with how things have gone so far this season. Currently, they are sixth in the Metropolitan Division with a 20-22-8 record after 50 games. But they have a few games in hand over the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Washington Capitals.

While the Islanders have been leaking goals this campaign, they may well have taken some hope from their 4-0 demolition of the Anaheim Ducks earlier this week. Casey Cizikas came to the fore with one goal and an assist. Ross Johnston also weighed in with two assists.

New York Islanders receive unenviable NHL award

There are few things you want to be ranked the worst for in the NHL. However, the Islanders may not be too fussed about the fact that Box Fantasy Sports recently carried out a poll, and they deemed the Islanders’ logo to be the ugliest in the NHL. We wonder who voted on this, but the logo doesn’t seem that bad at first glance!

St Louis Blues continue to tear things up

Of the teams that could be in the mix for the Stanley Cup, it’s hard to overlook the St Louis Blues. They have won their past four games on the trot, amassing 19 goals in the process. You imagine they will provide a stiff test for the Islanders. They could well come away with a win on Saturday evening.

Colorado Avalanche enjoy eight-goal thriller against New York Islanders

Colorado Avalanche have been exceptional for large chunks of this campaign. They came out on top in an eight-goal thriller against the New York Islanders earlier this week. It was a great game for the neutral to tune into anyway, while Avalanche’s head coach may have been biting his fingernails in the dugout!

Calgary Flames continue to sizzle in the NHL

Winning seems to come easily for the Calgary Flames, and the way they brushed aside Minnesota Wild was certainly very impressive. The Flames enjoyed an emphatic 5-1 win. Mikael Backlund and Johnny Gaudreau were both instrumental in the franchise’s devastating performance.

Gaudreau contributed two assists, while Backlund managed a goal and an assist, as the Flames proved too strong for the Wild to keep out. After a 7-1 thrashing at the hands of the Canucks last week, the Flames have responded brilliantly. Two wins on the spin, and they have a five-point cushion at the top of the Pacific Division.

There are so many key battles and intriguing elements to this clash between the Flames and the Avalanche. They are both a joy to watch in the NHL. However, if we are forced to pick a winner, then we will go with the Flames, but it will be very tight.

Minnesota Wild have to regroup quickly after Calgary Flames hammering

For the Wild, there will have been some soul-searching after their 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Flames earlier this week. Although the Wild have nosedived in terms of form over the past couple of weeks, they are still third in the Central Division, so there’s no need to press the panic button just yet.

After three defeats in a row, the Wild take on the Dallas Stars, who are fifth in the Central Division. However, the Stars were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline against the Nashville Predators. Before they face the Wild, the Stars face the Kings and the Winnipeg Jets in their next two games, which will be tricky.
