Brit’s love Pancakes more than any other country in the WORLD
9 out of 10 Brits searched for American-style pancakes over crepes in the last year
With Pancake day cre(e)ping upon us on the 1st March, Casumo has revealed which Shrove Tuesday treat the world is searching for.
Surprisingly, the UK took the top spot when it came to searching for American pancakes with a whopping 87% of us loving the thick, fluffy stack over the European crepe.
Across the entire globe, only 15.9% of people are searching for pancakes with a huge four fifths heading online to search for crepes instead, showing that the French invention is obviously the more popular choice around the world.
The classic ‘thin pancake’ which originated in Brittany, France during the 13th Century was searched for the most in 136 countries – an overwhelming majority. Americans’ fascination with Europe has spread into their food choices too, as surprisingly 9 in 10 Americans searched for the crepe more than their home-grown style.
(Un)surprisingly nine in 10 people prefer crepes in France
99% of Americans searched for crepes over pancakes
19 countries in the world search for American pancakes most
136 countries in the world search for crepes the most
No surprise that France took the lead for their love of crepes, having the highest search volume in the world at 96,000 in the last year.
This love is shared with multiple countries around the world including Brazil, Spain, Germany, and Italy – all with a 90% higher overall search volume than pancakes. Pancake Day is known as Mardi Gras in these countries which is French for “Fat Tuesday” where we can reflect on the last night of eating rich ‘fatty’ foods before Lent.
