Bundesliga: Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund hoping to dish out punishment to league’s stragglers

After a two-week international break, the Bundesliga is back this weekend. The focus this week is on the league’s big boys. Bayern Munich are at Augsburg on Friday, while Borussia Dortmund host Stuttgart on Saturday. We will also divulge the latest match odds ahead of these games.

Bayern Munich looking to pick up from where they left off

Bayern Munich are on a mission this season. Before the international break, they clocked up four wins on the trot in Germany’s top flight. They have also been scoring at a rate of knots, managing at least four goals or more in three of their past four games. And they will be eager to add to their tally of 29 goals from 11 matches.

The players have bought into Julian Nagelsmann’s philosophy, and they have looked virtually unstoppable this season. Bayern now have a four-point cushion at the top of the table, but a victory away to Augsburg could put them seven points clear for nearly 24 hours.

Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski makes surprise admission

Robert Lewandowski has never struggled in front of a goal. With 23 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for the reigning Bundesliga champions, the Polish hitman makes scoring look easy. Although his latest comments will come as a surprise for many. He said: “It’s not so easy for me. Sometimes it’s tough, but I have to be patient.”

Augsburg in for tough battle after a woeful run of results

Although there is still a long way to go before the end of the season, Augsburg may have a sinking feeling. They are currently a point above the relegation zone, and they have managed just one win from their past six Bundesliga games. Bayern will be ruthless, and Augsburg could capitulate if they aren’t up to the task.

Augsburg v Bayern Munich: A look back at past encounters

There will probably be a feeling of dread for the Augsburg camp about facing Bayern Munich. Last season, they were on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline. Bayern overpowered their opponents, as they stormed to victory thanks to goals from Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman, and Lewandowski.

Borussia Dortmund seek quick response after RB Leipzig disappointment

Dortmund will be eager for a quick response after they tasted defeat in their previous Bundesliga outing away to RB Leipzig. But Dortmund were missing a few faces that day, including Erling Haaland, and they will need three points against Stuttgart if they are going to keep themselves hot on the heels of Bayern.

Dortmund have lost their last two games in all competitions, however they haven’t had trouble scoring. They have netted 28 times in Germany’s top flight this season, but they will need to tighter at the back, as they have leaked 17 goals – more than any other side in the top four.

Meanwhile, Stuttgart are in a spot of bother, as they are 15th in the table at the time of writing. What’s more, they are just two points above the relegation zone. Their form has been dire, and their last victory in the Bundesliga was at the start of last month against Hoffenheim. Something has to change soon for them.

Borussia Dortmund v Stuttgart: A tale of past encounters

Generally, Dortmund have fared quite well against Stuttgart. However, if you cast your mind back to last season, Stuttgart demolished Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park, as they ran out 5-1 winners, and Dortmund were nothing short of awful.

Dortmund won’t be as nearly as bad this weekend, but Stuttgart can’t throw caution to the wind. They will need to be organised, and play between the lines, and hope they can sniff out an opportunity or two. Stuttgart will need to take their chances when they pop up.
