Casumo @ Ffos Las: Meet Preview

Another Casumo-sponsored afternoon this Thursday as the Sky cameras head to the Welsh track at Ffos Las.

We run through each race with key trainer/jockey stats and race preview.

Let’s get cracking!

1:25 – Casumo Proud Sponsors Of Reading FC Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+ 0-115) 2m6f SKY

CASUMO VERDICT: Getthepot is the only recent winner in the field having been successful at Ayr two runs back but failed to build on that last time at Southwell off a 10lb higher mark. One Handsome Dude and Fat Sam have their fair share of weight which might be tough in the hotter conditions, while the Evan Williams-trained Spider Cullen, who was tailed-off here last time, has a bit to prove. We feel Blumen Glory can run well, but the call is BUCKS DREAM. This 5 year-old was a solid second over 2m4f here at the track and with that coming off a 6-month break can be expected to have improved for it too. He’s only 2lbs higher here and gets in with a nice racing weight of just 10st 8lbs.

Casumo Trainer/Jockey Stats:
Trainer Evan Williams has a 15% record with his hurdles at the track – SPIDER CULLEN
Trainer Peter Bowen has a 13% record with his hurdlers at the track – BUCKS DREAM
Jockey Ben Jones is only 1-from 23 (4%) riding hurdlers at the track – JAUNTY VIKING

2:00 – Casumo Proud To Support British Horse Racing Handicap Chase Cl3 (5yo+ 0-130) 3m SKY

CASUMO VERDICT: Landsman returned to action last month with a solid second at Ludlow and despite being 2lbs higher is one to note for local trainer Tim Vaughan. The Tom George yard also do well here with their chasers and have Drumlee Sunset engaged, but this 11 year-old isn’t getting a bit long in the tooth now and might just find some younger legs too much here. Accordingtogino will be popular with brothers Dan and Harry Skelton teaming up, while course winners Sunset Showdown and Alminar are respected too. But this could be another for the Peter Bowen yard with their MONTANNA, who caught the eye when scooting up by 11 lengths last time over this course and distance. The stable won this race in 2011 and 2012, and, yes, a 10lb hike in the ratings makes life harder, but in this better class he still only gets in with 10st 9lbs and that’s 3lbs less than last time.

Casumo Trainer/Jockey Stats:
Trainer Tom George has a 27% record with his chasers at the track – DRUMLEE SUNSET
Trainer Rebecca Curtis has a 21% record with her chasers at the track –  SUNSET SHOWDOWN
Trainer Peter Bowen has a 18% record with his chasers at the track – MONTANNA
Jockey Sean Bowen has a 24% record riding over fences at the track – MONTANNA
Jockey Tom Scudamore has a 24% record riding over fences at the track – DRUMLEE SUNSET

2:35 – Download The Casumo App Today Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m SKY

CASUMO VERDICT: The Alan King yard won this race in 2016, so their Lunar Bounty is interesting. However, this 4 year-old bled from the nose last time out and that would be a slight concern. Both Taylors Three Rock and Tibbie Dunbar enter calculations after solid seconds last time out and should go well, while Eva’s Diva and Emma Lamb are others to respect, especially the last-named with the Dr Richard Newland camp having a decent 21% record at the track with their hurdlers. The one we’re interested in here though is the Ben Pauling runner – GERBOISE BORGET. This JP McManus-owned 6 year-old has only had three career runs so should have more to come and last time out wasn’t disgraced when third here at the track. This drop back to 2m (from 2m4f) looks a good move after this mare got a bit tired in the closing stages, plus having run well on quicker ground previously there are no issues on that score.

Casumo Trainer/Jockey Stats:
Trainer Ben Pauling has a 33% record with his hurdlers at the track – GERBOISE BORGET
Trainer Dr Richard Newland has a 21% record with his hurdlers at the track – EMMA LAMB
Jockey Brendan Powell has a 23% record riding over hurdles at the track – GERBOISE BORGET
Jockey Tom Bellamy has a 19% record riding over hurdles at the track – LUNAR BOUNTY

3:10 – Casumo Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Chase Cl4 (5yo+ 0-115) 2m3½f SKY

CASUMO VERDICT: Just the four runners head to post here but Celtic Joy, Pointed And Sharp and No Quarter Given all having a bit to prove, the obvious call is recent winner – ARCADE ATTRACTION. This Evan Williams-trained 7 year-old was a nice winner at Ludlow last time out, but has also won here at Ffos Las in the past. He’s up 6lbs for that last win, so has a bit more on his plate. However, 10lb claiming jockey Niall Moore gets on well with the horse and we feel with his three rivals all having something to answer at the moment, he’s the safest option.

Casumo Trainer/Jockey Stats:
Trainer Peter Bowen has a 18% record with his chasers at the track – NO QUARTER GIVEN

3:45 – Casumo Horse Racing And Sports Betting Handicap Hurdle Cl5 (4yo+ 0-105) 2m SKY

CASUMO VERDICT: A tricky race with 15 runners heading to post. Billy The Squid has been improving with each race this year and has to be considered from the Fergal O’Brien yard. He was a solid third at Southwell last time out and has also been dropped 2lbs by the handicapper too. Garbanzo has a big weight (12st 4lbs) but is also returning from a 448-day absence so fitness would have to be taken on trust. Timassini is a proven course and distance winner that commands respect, while First Destination and Dream Machine are others that can go well. The nod goes to RAGAMUFFIN and SALAMANCA SCHOOL though. The former is the only other course and distance winner in the line-up, who ran a solid race last time at Southwell when fourth of 13. He’s 2lbs lower here so the handicapper has given him a chance with jockey Tom Scudamore catching the eye in the saddle. Then Salamanca School hails from the Warren Greatrex yard that have a cracking 23% record with their hurdlers at the track. Yes, he was a beaten favourite last time out at Plumpton, but this more galloping track will help and he’s been helped by being downed 4lbs by the assessor.

Casumo Trainer/Jockey Stats:
Trainer Alexandra Dunn has a 25% record with her hurdlers at the track – NEVER A WORD
Trainer Warren Greatrex has a 23% record with his hurdlers at the track – SALAMANCA SCHOOL
Trainer Dr Richard Newland has a 21% record with his hurdlers at the track – GARBANZO
Jockey Ben Jones is only 1-from 23 (4%) riding hurdlers at the track – EASKEY LAD
Jockey Connor Brace is only 1-from 23 (4%) riding hurdlers at the track – BILLY THE SQUID

4:20 – Join Casumo Today Handicap Chase Cl5 (5yo+ 0-100) 3m SKY

CASUMO VERDICT: Another tough race to unravel. The first thing to note is that the Christian Williams yard are currently 0-from-27 with their chasers at the track. With that in mind, their Blackjacktennessee is overlooked. Shattered Glass was a nice winner at Chepstow two runs back, but was pulled up at Warwick last time out. The blinkers are on this time so these might help. Robin Of Sherwood is the only course and distance winner in the field, which is an obvious plus, while Clondaw Rigger, Et Apres Thou and Lure Des Pres come here off the back of fair recent runs. The two we are going to pin our hopes on though are AULD SOD and ISLA DI MILANO. The last-named will like the drying ground and stayed on well over this course and distance last month (5th). He’s from the John Flint yard, that have a 24% record with their hurdlers here, and a 3lb drop in the ratings makes life easier, as does just 10st 2lbs in weight to carry. Auld Sod is another that ran well last time out when a close third at Exeter. He’s also gets in here with a nice racing weight (10st 7lbs), while all his best form has been on this quicker ground.

Casumo Trainer/Jockey Stats:
Trainer John Flint has a 24% record with his chasers at the track – ISLA DI MILANO
Trainer Peter Bowen has a 18% record with his chasers at the track – KAPSIZE, HENRY MORGAN PARRY
Trainer Christian Williams is 0-from-27 with his chasers at the track – BLACKJACKTENNESSEE
Jockey Sean Bowen has a 24% record riding over fences at the track – KAPSIZE
Jockey Tom Scudamore has a 24% record riding over fences at the track – SHATTERED GLASS

4:55- Casumo Bet 10 Get 10 Handicap Hurdle Cl5 (4yo+ 0-100) 2m4f SKY

CASUMO VERDICT: 14 runners here, but the clear form pick based on recent runs is the Max Young runner – TOP BEAK. This 8 year-old is in a rich vein of form at present with two solid wins at Fakenham and despite a huge weight (12st 9lbs) connections have booked conditional jockey Jason Dixon to take off 7lbs this time, which also offsets the 7lb hike the handicapper gave him for winning last time. Ayr Of Elegance is the only other last-time-out winner in the field after going in at Plumpton back in March so has to be respected despite a 10lb rise in the ratings. Shanandoa, Clearly Capable and Lambs Lane look to be running into form too, but the other to have onside is COMEONTHEBULL. This Robert Stephens runner was only beaten a neck into third here last time out and because the handicapper hasn’t had time to react, gets in here just five days later off a 6lb lower mark. Tom O’Brien, who does well at the track over hurdle, is also a top jockey booking.

Casumo Trainer/Jockey Stats:
Trainer Tim Vaughan is just 4-from-70 (4%) with his hurdlers at the track – BLUNDER BUSS, JUDEX LEFOU
Jockey Tom O’Brien has a 17% record riding over hurdles at the track – COMEONTHEBULL
Jockey Connor Brace is only 1-from 23 (4%) riding hurdlers at the track – LAMBS LANE
