Euro 2020 Group E Betting Tips

Euro 2020 is a matter of days away, and it could be one of the most open editions of the tournament to date. Portugal is the reigning champion after they triumphed over France in the Euro 2016 final. This time around, there are several teams with designs on the trophy. They include Germany, England and Belgium. Looking at the group stage, Group E could potentially be intriguing, as it contains Spain, Sweden, Poland and Slovakia. All eyes will be on Spain, who is gunning for an unprecedented fourth European Championship title. However, Poland and Sweden will jostle for the second spot while Slovakia could be the whipping boys. In this comprehensive Group E preview, we will assess the strengths of all four teams,  discuss their chances of progressing in the tournament, amongst other Euro 2020 betting tips

Spain Betting Tips and Odds

Spain, arguably, needs little introduction. La Roja won back-to-back Euros in 2008 and 2012, and they have a serious pedigree. However, after crashing out at the last-16 stage five years ago, Luis Enrique went back to the drawing board. He has overseen a resurgence of the national side. While inconsistency has dogged Spain, perhaps they will return to the pinnacle of their game at Euro 2020. One of the key players is Álvaro Morata. The Juventus striker returns, this way, to La Roja after a long absence. However, there are also some exciting youngsters in the squad, including Ferran Torres, who impressed for Manchester City last season. Spain is currently a short 2/5 to top Group E, but in the main outright market, they are 9/1 to win Euro 2020.

Sweden Betting Tips and Odds

What Sweden lack in natural talent, compared to Group E rivals Spain, they more than make up for with their aptitude on the pitch. The 1992 semi-finalists have been regular visitors to the European Championships, but unfortunately, they won’t be buoyed by the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The player is ruled out of the competition due to a knee injury. However, fans will be keeping a close eye on Alexander Isak, who has been lighting it up for Real Sociedad in La Liga. Isak will most likely be the strike partner of sharpshooter Dejan Kulusevski in the attempt to score some goals in the opponents’ nets. Sweden is currently 19/20 to qualify for the last 16, but they are 6/1 to emulate their 1992 achievement of a last-four berth.

Poland Betting Tips and Odds

Poland will be hoping to make a deeper foray this time round at Euro 2020 after a quarter-final exit to Portugal five years ago. While their record against their other Group E opponents, including Spain, makes for grim reading, the Poles boast plenty of weapons in their side. Fans will naturally gravitate towards Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern Munich man is the country’s most capped player, and he is lethal in the penalty box. This was demonstrated when he shattered the Bundesliga’s 49-year record by plundering 41 goals. Lewandowski only needs one more goal to match Jakub Blaszczykowski’s record of three goals at the European Championship finals and with Euro 2020 top scorer odds at 40/1, they’re too good to ignore. Poland currently match Sweden’s odds of 19/20 to book a place in the last 16, but they are 80/1 to last the distance in the tournament.

Slovakia Betting Tips and Odds

While Slovakia are no strangers to the European Championships, having now qualified for back-to-back tournaments, they aren’t expected to spring many surprises. There have been some changes over the past year with long-term boss Jan Kozak stepping down, to be replaced by Stefan Tarkovic. Previously known for his exploits with Napoli, midfielder Marek Hamsik is the standout player for Slovakia. He has earned 126 caps and scored 26 times for his country. Slovakia beat Spain in a Euro 2016 qualifier in Euro 2014, but can they repeat the feat? Although Slovakia reached the last-16 stage at Euro 2016, things will be eminently harder for them this time around. At the time of writing, Slovakia are 4/1 to get out of Group E and qualify for the last 16.

Euro 2020 Group E: The tipster’s viewpoint

On the face of it, Group E could make for compelling viewing. There are some fascinating subplots and battles to look forward to. This includes Sweden v Poland. Naturally, Spain is currying the most favour with us here at Casumo. With their track record at the European Championships, they should top the group, and make serene progress into the last-16 stage. Enrique will expect nothing less, and a strong start is imperative. There’ll be a serious tussle for second spot between Poland and Sweden. While Sweden shouldn’t be underestimated, Poland may have the edge, especially if Lewandowski is firing on all cylinders. Slovakia appear to be the weakest side in Group E. It seems likely they could be packing their bags early and heading for the exit door.
