Indomitable Man City face faltering Chelsea

Who doesn’t love an all England Champions League final? Manchester City and Chelsea head to Porto for the season’s climax in a final which has us all perched on the edge of our seats.

Both domestically and internationally, City have been special this season. Indeed, they go into this final unbeaten in Europe. They were so good this season that they only drew one group stage game, ironically against Porto, in Porto.

Pep Guardiola’s machine scored 25 goals in Europe this season, averaging 2 goals per game. Their performances against PSG in the semi finals were something to behold and it’s almost impossible to imagine them falling to a defeat on Saturday.

We say almost because we mean it. Chelsea are no mugs. They overcame Real Madrid in the semi finals and only endured one defeat en route to the final… Porto again the protagonists who beat them in the second leg played in Porto.

Yes, the beautiful city of Porto has not been a happy hunting ground for these two sides which adds an interesting sprinkle of doubt to this final.

Chelsea’s form wobbled at just the wrong time and may consider themselves fortunate for qualifying for next season’s Champions League, after Spurs did them a favour by tearing Leicester City apart on the final day. Alarmingly, Chelsea also collapsed in the FA Cup final against Leicester, so it seems like dealing with pressure is not their speciality and this can give City a mental edge over their opponents.

As good as City have been, Chelsea have already beaten them twice this season. The London side beat them in the semi final of the FA Cup and most recently in the league, 3-1.  As Chelsea lost their final game of the season at Villa, City ended their season in style, seeing off Everton 5-0, with Aguero grabbing himself a brace after coming on in the 64th minute. His last match in a City shirt at the Etihad couldn’t have been more of a fairytale ending for the Argentinian, lifting his 13th piece of silverware in front of a tear filled stadium. Fans paid tribute to their icon, who gave the club its best memory with his “Aguerooo” moment in 2012.

It’s his final game at City before he packs his bags for Barcerlona and you can get him to score in the Champions League final at odds of 24/5 or 5.8

The question on everyone’s mind this weekend is can anybody beat this city squad? Pep gets the edge when it comes to experience, winning the European Cup himself as a player in the 91/92 season and lifting the trophy another two times as Barca manager in the 08/09 and 10/11 seasons. He’s got a 100% record in Champions League finals, which is more than Tuchel has to say for himself following PSG’s defeat in last season’s edition.

Will it be 3 on 3 for Pep? You can get odds of 1.52 on Manchester City to lift the trophy.

The last time Chelsea played in a champions league final, they were crowned champions after beating Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties, when the 120 minutes ended in a 1-1 draw, in the 2011/12 season. Tuchel, will be eager to go a step further with this Chelsea side and clinch the title, but his men will have to be at the top of their game if they’re to ruin Pep’s party.
