Manchester United launch title charge

That sounds like music to the ears of Manchester United fans, and believe me, Mancs are familiar with good music! A city built on the Stone Roses and Oasis, two familiar styles, supporting either team in one of yesteryear’s hippest cities.

For Manchester City trophies came in heaps during the last few seasons, while United’s trophy cabinet collects nothing but dust. 2020 has been strange for many reasons, but can a Man United trophy charge stem from it?

Manchester United are now 8/1 or 9.00 to win the Premier League

It’s not been Heavy Metal football as the Scousers across the M1 are used to, but a more random style, which came to devastating effect as Manchester United destroyed an old foe at the weekend. Scoring six is always special, doing it against your old enemy, the “Last Champions”, Leeds United, who waited 16 years for this game was brilliant.

Drink it in United fans and care not about a hangover. Moments like that have been so rare of late that as the tune “This is the one” blares out in many a Mancunian home, people should really ask themselves: Is this the one? Is this the year that Manchester United finally compete? 2020 has seen more bizarre moments, that’s for sure.

After the gloss at Old Trafford, United head to Leicester City – themselves title contenders too in one of the the most anticipated matches this season. Brendan Rodgers has been calmly collecting points as Jamie Vardy keeps worrying goalies.

Vardy is second to only Mo Salah in the goal scoring charts and the thing about Jamie Vardy is that he just keeps going! His energy is endless, his runs are zappy and confusing and he’s exactly the type of forward Harry Maguire can’t handle. It’s like watching a heavyweight take on a welterweight.

Back Jamie Vardy to score first at 18/5 or 4.6

Those two players represent the team’s playing styles perfectly. Musically it’s like comparing Kasabian – from Leicester, to the Stone Roses. Both brilliant, but one is slightly stronger in the modern music scene. One changed music forever with Fools Gold, the other produced a song so popular it became the Premier League anthem for so long: Fire. A song we all love coming from a city that produced the Champions we all love too: Claudio Ranieri’s incredible Leicester City.

This season Leicester are now at 33/1 or 34.00 to win the Premier League

It’s worth noting that United have a game in hand, so trailing Liverpool by five points means nothing right now. A win v Leicester would cement a title charge. A defeat won’t deflate it, a draw does no harm. It’s mentally a comforting place to be. A rare zone of no pressure. Manchester United fans should be encouraged to enjoy the moments of good football, and chill out during defeats. It’s not a team built to compete for titles yet, but it is a team that can entertain, frustrate and disappoint too, often during the 90 minutes.

Their unpredictability is now their main strength, so just enjoy the ride, and if a title race comes through, all the better for everyone!

From title talks to relegation rumbles

Arsenal, oh Arsenal. How the mighty have fallen. 15th in the league and on a hopeless run of form. They are lost. The only positive they gain from the Everton defeat is that they ended the game with 11 men, a rarity these days. Big teams are not immune to relegation, but you’d think, you’d hope, they have more goals in them than the likes of Brighton, Burnley, WBA, Fulham or Sheffield United. Yes, that short list consists of the teams below Arsenal. Five of them. Frankly each five can beat Arsenal too, particularly Fulham who have improved dramatically. WBA’s Sam Allardyce is a survival expert and he might have waited for the Arsenal job to be vacant.

It’s Chelsea up next in a Boxing Day box office clash.

I’d love to type that an Arsenal win would galvanize them, but sadly it won’t. They did beat United in their last league win eight Premier League games ago, and it proved fruitless. Chelsea need to bully them and ignore the histories between the sides. Go in, do the job, leave and don’t get sentimental. Frank Lampard must be ruthless and Chelsea need those three points to send a message to their London rivals: Arsenal are in danger. It’s a derby which can inflict chaos on one team, it’s a derby where you need to leave your pals behind for Willian, Luiz and Giroud who all crossed the border from North to West of late, it’s a derby which can destroy a team. Chelsea: this is yours to lose!

Chelsea are 8/1 or 9.00 to win this one 0-2!
