Revealed: What the UK are (surprisingly!) willing to sacrifice for Netflix and Instagram

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we have delved into what adults across the UK are really willing to give up in order to keep their social media, never do a household chore again or keep binge-watching their favourite shows.

In keeping with the language of love for 14th February, we asked what we’d be willing to give up for sex and the answer is, not very much.

Half of Millennials would rather give up sex than social media

Surprisingly, half of 25-34 year old’s would forgo sex for a month rather than give up their access to Instagram and TikTok. With women 19% more likely to give up their sexual needs to keep their social media followers and likes intact.

It’s perhaps no surprise that the region in the UK where the decision was most difficult was in the capital. Londoners have the highest percentage of individuals longing to keep their social accounts over longing for a night of passion. Perhaps sharing a picture of the latest bottomless brunch spot is too hard to pass up.

Netflix or Chill?

When asked about the possibility of a night between the sheets or a night in with our laptop and favourite streaming service, we found it near impossible to pick our preferred pastime.

Netflix

1 in 3 millennials were willing to forgo sex if it meant being able to binge-watch the latest series.

This is one category where Londoners were keen to prioritize their sexual desires and throw away the remote – with over three quarters choosing to keep the chill and lose Netflix. Gone are the days of Netflix and chill, it’s clear in London the question is Netflix or chill?

Generation X and Baby Boomers are the least likely to give up sex for anything

45-64 year old’s, nicknamed Gen X and Boomers, are the age groups putting sex on a pedestal with social media, streaming subscriptions and chocolate all falling behind in their list of wants.

63% of 45-54 year old’s and 61% of those aged 55-64 want to have a night of passion with someone else over alone time. Whereas over half of Gen X and Millennials would prefer quiet ‘me time’.

It would appear that the younger generations have gone off sex but the more mature amongst us are the most randy. Although, with 1 in 9 25–34-year-olds describing their relationship status as ‘complicated’ it’s no wonder they’d prefer to indulge in some quiet ‘me time.’

Women would give up sex to never do chores

Almost half (41%) of women are willing to give up sex for life if it means never doing household chores again. That’s over double the number of men – it’s clear who’s still doing the majority of the dishes in our houses.

There’s something else that women are twice as likely as men to give up sex for and it should come as no surprise that it’s chocolate. For a lot of women there’s nothing like a sweet bar of Cadbury or Galaxy at the end of the day.

Wales is the most randy part of the UK

8 out of 10 people in Wales would prefer a night between the sheets and are the most willing in the UK to give up their Netflix account for sex.

A couple in bed

In contrast the North West – yes, we’re looking at you Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside – is the area which prefers to Netflix without the chill.

Unfortunately, it might be bad news if you’re looking for love in the West Midlands, as half of residents would prefer to win the lottery and be set for life than find the love of their life. Maybe it’s time to widen the dating app radius?

The luck of the Irish

The Northern Irish have proven to be the most loved up in the UK, with 8 out of 10 identifying as being in a committed relationship.

That might have something to do with the fact that three quarters of them also opted for a night of passion over any alone time.

Or maybe that ALL of those in a relationship said they could remember their anniversary – the only region in the UK to hold a clean sheet.

So, there you have it. The true wants and needs of the British public ahead of Valentine’s Day revealed – it might be worth sending a ‘like’ rather than roses?

Methodology:

Casumo surveyed over 1,000 male and females aged 18-65 across the UK on 21st January 2022 to discover what they would sacrifice sex for. Respondents were asked 15 ‘would you rather’ style questions around sex, love, money, social media, household chores and chocolate. Casumo then analyzed the results.
