Serie A Preview

Serie A 15-16/01/22: Juventus take on Udinese, Inter Milan face Atalanta showdown

Last weekend produced a flurry of goals, and none were more dramatic than Juventus’ 4-3 victory over Roma. We have some cracking matches to look forward to this weekend, including Juventus v Udinese, and Atalanta v Inter Milan. We will also provide the latest match odds, so check out our full preview.

Juventus pull it out of the bag with huge three points against Roma

Before Christmas, Juventus looked like being cut adrift in terms of the top four. However, they have got their act together, and they are now fifth in the Serie A standings. Last weekend, they rallied from 3-1 down against Roma to claim an incredible 4-3 win. The Bianconeri played the last nine minutes of the game with 10 men after Matthijs de Light was dismissed.

Jose Mourinho was quick to lament his side’s performance, and he criticised his men for being too “weak and too nice”. However, Juve displayed plenty of grit to haul themselves back into the match. Juve now have the wind in their sails, having won six and drawn two of their past eight matches in all competitions.

Juventus dealt Federico Chiesa blow in wake of Roma win

While Juve enjoyed a thrilling victory over Roma, the win was marred by Federico Chiesa’s knee injury. The diagnostic tests showed an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Chiesa is now expected to undergo surgery in the next few days. It is unclear yet how long he will be out of action.

Udinese revival undone by Atalanta thrashing

Udinese were heading in the right direction in recent weeks after enjoying back-to-back victories over Crotone in the Coppa Italia, and Cagliari in Italy’s top flight. However, on Sunday, Udinese were torn apart by a rampant Atalanta, who ran out 6-2 winners. Udinese are currently 14th in the table and seven points above the drop zone, but they can’t be so naive against Juve.

Juventus v Udinese: A look back on past encounters

The head-to-head record can be a good gauge of how matches may unfold. Udinese, however, may well be dreading a trip to the Allianz Stadium on Saturday. On their previous visit there last year, Udinese were on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline. On that day, Cristiano Ronaldo helped himself to a double.

Inter Milan eager to keep their noses out in front

The second half of the Serie A season could provide a thrilling climax to the title race. Conceivably, the top four all stand a chance of wresting the title from Inter Milan’s grasp. Inter are currently a solitary point ahead of nearest rivals AC Milan, but they won’t give up without a fight.

Last weekend, Inter clinched a 2-1 win over Lazio. Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar popped up with the goals to get the better of Lazio. The victory was Inter’s fourth on the trot in Serie A, and it marked a good start to 2022. Amazingly, they have only lost one of their 20 games this season, and they have hit 51 goals.

Meanwhile, Atalanta will be buoyed after their devastating display against Udinese, as mentioned earlier. Luis Muriel put Udinese to the sword with a double, while Mario Pasalic, Ruslan Malinovsky, Joakim Maehle, and Matteo Pessina also got in on the act to provide some extra sheen to the scoreline.

Atalanta v Inter Milan: Unlocking the vault on past clashes

The importance of this fixture can’t be understated, and this showdown is huge for both sides in the context of their seasons. The head-to-head record makes for interesting reading. Earlier this season, the two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, with Edin Dzeko salvaging a point for the hosts with a late equaliser.

On Inter’s last trip, they earned a point when they claimed a 1-1 draw. Lautaro Martinez’s opener was cancelled out by Aleksey Miranchuk, and the stakes will be high for this game. While Inter boasts plenty of firepower in attack, Atalanta will be hard to break down, and this could well end up being a draw.
