Serie A Preview

Serie A: AC Milan travel to Fiorentina while Inter Milan take on Napoli

After a couple of weeks off for the international break, the Serie A is back. There are plenty of blockbuster clashes to seek your teeth into this weekend, and we will give the lowdown ahead of Fiorentina v AC Milan on Saturday. On Sunday, Inter Milan host table-toppers Napoli. We will see how the odds are shaping up ahead of these games.

Fiorentina facing a defensive crisis ahead of the AC Milan clash

Fiorentina could be short of bodies at the back for their trip to the San Siro this weekend. Nikola Milenkovic was sent off in the 1-0 defeat to Juventus before the international break, and he is currently serving a suspension. Lucas Martinez Quarta is also missing through suspension, while Matija Nastasic is a doubt with a calf problem.

There was one glimmer of good news, however, for La Viola. Fiorentina recently confirmed that winger Nico Gonzalez tested negative for COVID, so he is in contention to start against Milan. Fiorentina has picked up 18 points from their 12 games to date this campaign, and they are seventh on the table.

AC Milan neck and neck with Napoli

The only thing separating Milan and Napoli at the top of the table is goal difference. Napoli have scored five more goals, but Milan have been outstanding, winning three of their past four Serie A games. Fiorentina, though, will have to keep Olivier Giroud quiet to get anything out of this game.

Fiorentina v AC Milan: Rossoneri targeting league double over La Viola

For Fiorentina, Milan have been something of a bogey side. Last season, Milan clinched a league double over La Viola. Milan ran out comfortable 2-0 winners at home, while on the road, they claimed a 3-2 victory. On that day, Hakan Calhanoglu grabbed the match-winner.

Stefano Pioli left with Davide Calabria worry ahead of Fiorentina clash

Milan boss Stefano Pioli will be sweating on Davide Calabria’s fitness ahead of the Fiorentina clash. Right-back Calabria, the standing captain, picked up an injury while on international duty with Italy. However, further tests will reveal the extent of the damage. Should Calabria be unavailable, then Pierre Kalulu may be deployed as a right-back.

Inter Milan in good shape ahead of Napoli test

Inter have been in good form of late, and they haven’t tasted defeat in Serie A since a 3-1 loss to Lazio earlier this month. However, the importance of their clash with Napoli should not be underestimated. In many cases, it feels like a must-win game for Inter.

Currently, they are seven points off the pace in Italy’s top flight, and they are third on the table. A defeat would leave them 10 points adrift, and we are already a third of the way through the season. However, winning the match will see them move closer to the first position.

That said, Napoli have been watertight at the back, and they will be tough to break down. They have conceded just once in their past five matches, and they are very fluid moving forward. Victor Osimhen will likely be a menace, so Inter will have to keep close tabs on him during the game.

Inter Milan v Napoli: A tale of past clashes

Inter Milan v Napoli will be a mouthwatering clash, and it could well end up being a classic! But what should we expect? If we are to judge this based on past games, it could be a tense affair. There’s so much on the line, and both teams will surely give it all they’ve got.

The last couple of fixtures hasn’t produced many goals. Indeed, when they faced each other last season, the games produced three goals in total. However, Inter will have fond memories of their 1-0 victory at home to Napoli, and on that day, a Romelu Lukaku penalty was the difference between the two sides.
