Inter Milan are on the brink of clinching their first Serie A title since 2010, while the race to finish in the top four is intensifying. Inter Milan on the cusp of clinching Scudetto
Inter have been in Juve’s long shadows for the past decade however, at long last with just five games remaining, they are on the brink of glory. They’ve managed a near unassailable 11-point lead at the top of the Serie A table. Should Inter beat Crotone on Saturday evening, and Atalanta to slip up against Sassuolo, Inter would be crowned champions with four games to spare.
Inter Milan have cantered towards the title, and they have lost just two of their 33 games to date. Antonio Conte’s men have had the odd sticky moment, but they have always found the answers in games. They have been irresistible at times, and are unbeaten in their last eight Serie A matches.

Crotone’s Serie A fate all but sealed
For Crotone, it has been a season to forget. They have been cut adrift, and are anchored to the bottom of the table with just 18 points to their name from 33 games. They trail Cagliari by 13 points with five games remaining, but it appears very unlikely that Crotone will be able to engineer a great escape.
Inter Milan will be eyeing another routine win
Although there have only been five Serie A clashes between the two sides, Inter will be relishing adding to Crotone’s woes. Earlier this season at the San Siro, Conte’s charges were ruthless as they stormed to a 6-2 victory. Lautaro Martinez stole the headlines as he grabbed a hat-trick that day.
Luis Muriel firing Atalanta to new heights
Atalanta are one of the in-form sides in Serie A. They have won five and drawn one of their past six matches, and they occupy the second spot in the table. They catapulted their way to second spot as Milan lost 3-0 against Lazio, while Atalanta thrashed Bologna 5-0.
Atalanta looking to tighten grip on second spot
Over the past couple of seasons, Atalanta have managed to establish themselves as a top-four side. They are currently on course for another top-four finish, and with Luis Muriel in their ranks, Atalanta have a proven goalscorer. Muriel has been deadly this term, firing 19 goals in Serie A and he is six strikes off Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally.
To muscle in on the likes of Napoli and Juventus has been impressive, and Atalanta can see the end of season in sight. Atalanta face Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon, and while Sassuolo are comfortably in the top half of the table, they won’t be giving up on grabbing a Europa League spot.
Although Sassuolo trail sixth-placed Lazio by nine points, and arguably have little to play for, they won’t be a pushover. Atalanta will be keen to put the game to bed quickly, and Muriel will be hoping to add to his tally this term. If Sassuolo aren’t careful, they could be embarrassed.
Sassuolo v Atalanta: History nods towards an Atalanta win
Sunday’s clash will represent the 16th meeting between Sassuolo and Atalanta. However, Sassuolo will be looking to right some wrongs from the past few encounters. Back in January, Atalanta enjoyed an emphatic 5-1 victory. Duvan Zapata popped up with a double, while Muriel put extra gloss on the victory 17 minutes after the restart.
Recent meetings have been rather one-sided. Aside from the 5-1 victory three months ago, Atalanta have found it easy to fire goals past Sassuolo. In 2018, Atalanta romped to a 6-2 victory, and Sassuolo will no doubt want to get one over on their opponents. Sassuolo have only beaten Atalanta twice in Serie A, and that victory came towards the end of the 2013/14 campaign.
