Arsenal vs Villarreal Betting Tips

Arsenal are hosting Villarreal in the second leg semi-final of the Europa League at the Emirates Stadium in London on 7th May 2021 at 00:30 IST. Villarreal are in marauding form in the Europa League while Arsenal have only just managed to find their footing in the last few matches in the league.

Arsenal Form & Team News

Arsenal was the number one team after the group stage in this year’s Europa League. They qualified with 18 points from six games winning all six games to march into the next round. In the pre-quarters, Arsenal beat Olympiacos by an aggregate score of three goals to two, which even though they lost the second leg at home, their first leg aggregate score was enough for the gunners to qualify. And in the Quarterfinals, they faced Slavia Praha and went to win the second leg by the margin of 4-0 while drawing the first leg 1-1 to qualify for the Semi-finals. They are facing Villarreal in the semifinals to challenge for the title this season which they very dearly would need to re-establish their stake as a champions side after another rather poor PL showing.

Alexandre Lacazzatte has a bad hamstring and is doubtful for the second leg fixture against Villarreal.  Kieran had sustained a knee injury. Arteta has been in the fold of things for enough time to start making an impact with the gunners and the Europa title would just be the best thing that can happen presently to the Holding led side. Pepe along with Willock have been quite spectacular with their goal-scoring prowess. Saka has also managed to make his influence felt in the midfield which augurs well for the team.

Villarreal Form & Team News

They finished as the number one side from Group I with 13 points from five games played. They beat Dynamo Kyiv comprehensively in the pre-quarters with an aggregate score of four goals to nil, both of which ending with a scoreline of 2-0 respectively. They beat GNK Dinamo Zagreb in the quarterfinal and won both legs with an aggregate score of 1-0 and 2-1 respectively. Villarreal now faces a sterner test in English Giants Arsenal who too would want to add to their trophy cabinet the Europa League title just like how Villareal aims to win as well.

Manu Trigueros is the only one likely to miss out on the Arsenal game due to a Red card he picked up during the last game. Foyth and Capoue are also set to miss the next game owing to injuries. Emery has a lot of options to choose from and he should take heart from the fact that their showing so far in the Europa League has been consistent. Moreno and Alcacer have been the goal-scoring machines this season for Villarreal in the Europa League so far netting in six goals each. As many as eleven players have managed to open the scoring in this season’s Europa League alone tells about the form that they have been exhibiting.

Our Tipster’s Angle

Arsenal have a better head to head record but considering the fact that Villarreal can turn the tables anytime makes up for an interesting battle. Villarreal’s form in this tournament is stunning while Arsenal have been largely inconsistent. Also considering Villarreal have an added advantage here in terms of the aggregate score, Arsenal might find it a little difficult here to topple the side from Spain.

Tip 1: Total Goals over 2.5

Six of the last seven matches that Villarreal have played across competitions have had the total goals to be over 2.5. While playing away, Villarreal have had four their last five matches where the total goals have been over 2.5. In the Europa League, Villarreal have both of their last two matches where the condition was satisfied. In the case of Arsenal, five of the last nine matches played across competitions, have had the total goals to be over 2.5. In their last five matches in the Europa League, they have three games which had the total goals to be over 2.5. Their last two head to head matches also had over 2.5 goals in it. So it’s quite likely the match will have over 2.5 goals. According to the Casumo Sportsbook, the odds for the total goals to be over 2.5 is 1.79.

Tip 2: Both teams to score

In the last seven matches played by Villarreal across competitions, six have had both teams scoring. While playing away, all two of the last two matches Villarreal have played across competitions have had both teams scoring. In this Europa League, Villarreal had both of the last two matches where both teams scored. One of the last two matches Arsenal have been part of have had the above condition being satisfied. Out of the last three matches played away by Arsenal, they have had two games when the condition was satisfied. In the Europa League this season, two of the last three matches Arsenal was part of have turned out to have both teams scoring. Their last head to head match between the two sides also had yielded the condition as mentioned above, so it’s most likely both teams might end up scoring. The odds for Both Teams to score according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 1.64

Conclusion

These two teams meet very rarely and they are facing each other after 12 years. Arsenal have a good record against the side from Spain but Villarreal cannot be taken lightly as well given their aggregate lead from the first leg. Summarising on a couple of bets from above:

  1. Total Goals over 2.5 @1.79
  2. Both teams to score @ 1.64
