Croatia vs Spain Betting Tips

Croatia and Spain are playing each other in the round of 16 on the 28th of June 2021 at 21:30 IST in the Parken in Copenhagen, Denmark. Two late bloomers in the group stages are facing each other in good form which could make up for a great match given they continue to do what they have started to do.

Croatia Form and Team News

Croatia stamped their authority as one of the leading sides going around with a thumping win over Scotland in the last match of the league stages. They won the game three goals to one thus finishing up four points. Croatia in the second game played out a draw against the strong Czech Republic side. They were decent throughout the game as well. Croatia had also kept up the reputation of their defensive play against a rampaging England in the first game. They held together pretty well during the course of that game but failed to stop England from scoring a solitary goal and eventually losing it in the end. They are not in a good run of form presently winning just three in the last ten games. Considering they have a dubious distinction of picking themselves up in elite competitions every time, we cannot count out Croatia just because of their recent record.

Zlatko Dalic, the Croatian national football team coach will once again form the x-factor for the side with his tactical show. It’s not often that you refer a coach to an X-factor but such has been the display from Dalic during his tenure that he deserves to get that credit. Captain Modric was spectacular in the last game scoring one as well as providing an assist in the process. The right-wing was busy creating a lot of chances, Brozovic along with Perisic and Modric were all contributing pretty well and eventually, Perisic delivered with a goal as well. Nikola Vlasic also managed to shake the netting in the last game.

Spain Form and Team News

Spain finally managed to let loose in the last game against Slovakia and scored the highest number of goals for any team in a match. They netted as many as five goals against a hapless Slovakian defence and could’ve added more given they did not miss the penalty. They qualified with four points and are now facing Croatia in the Round of 16. Spain did manage to keep producing dismal performances game after game and the second game was nothing different. They had pretty much everything in their control but when it comes to the attacking third, they are flattering big time. They couldn’t defend the lead against Poland and eventually ended up with a draw. Spain in the first round matches had a stalemate against Sweden, it was not the result that is disappointing but with whatever they did on the pitch, they should’ve seen at least seen three to four goals. 85 per cent possession, 17 shots, number of passes, no of crosses, no of tackles, everything favouring them, but no goals. They now need to keep doing what they did right in the last game and build on the momentum.

Former Barcelona superstar manager Luis Enrique had taken over the coaching duties of the Spanish national team some time ago. He has so far been decent with his strategies and team selections. He has a very young side at his hands which can be made into the world-beating side that Spain in the early 2010s’ were in some years time. This team has the potential to reach that point. One major setback is that their talisman captain Sergio Ramos would miss the tournament. Everyone except the strikers Morata and Eric Garcia had a decent game, the forward line has to convert the chances into goals nonetheless.

Our Tipster’s Angle

The Knockouts are here and Spain cannot afford to be casual in their anymore and they seem to have realised it in the last when they literally thrashed Slovakia and looked set to score more as well. Even though Croatia won the last game, it was against relatively weaker opposition in Scotland, so given that Spain are favourites to win this tie and progress into the next round.

Tip 1: Total Goals by Croatia Odd

Croatia in the last ten matches they have played across competitions like the ongoing Euro, International friendlies, World Cup Qualifiers and the Nations League have been scoring in odd numbers in six matches of those. This record while playing at home, in the last four matches they played across competitions, have seen all four matches ending up with Croatia’s goal tally in the odd numbers. Spain as a matter of fact have conceded an odd number of goals in four of their last seven games as well. In the last three head to head matches played between the two sides, two games had ended with Croatia scoring in odd number. All of Croatia’s last four qualification round matches have had them scoring an odd number of goals. So it’s quite likely they will score an odd number of goals in the game against Spain. The odds for Total Goals by Croatia Odd according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 2.35.

Tip 2: Both teams to score

In the last five matches played by Croatia across competitions, three of those have had both teams score. While playing at home, all three of the last three matches Croatia have played across competitions have had both teams scoring. Four of the last seven matches that Spain have been part of have had the above condition being satisfied. Playing away, two of the last two matches involving Spain have had both teams score. Three of Croatia’s last four qualification matches have also had the above condition satisfied. Two of their last three head to head matches have also had both teams scoring, so it’s most likely both teams might end up scoring. The odds for Both Teams to score according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 2.02.

Both teams are in terrific form coming into this match and the head to head record is also on a stalemate, this match would surely be one we cannot afford to miss by any chance. Summarising on a couple of bets from above:

  1. Total goals by Croatia Odd @ 2.35
  2. Both teams to score @ 2.02
