Denmark vs Finland – Euro 2020 Betting Tips

Denmark are hosting Finland in the first Group B meeting of this years’ EURO in the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on the 12th of June 2021 at 21:30 IST. Both teams are separated by a big margin as per the FIFA rankings but the performance on the given night would probably be the telling difference going into this match.

Denmark Form and Team News

Denmark qualified as the second-placed team from Group D with 16 points gathered from the eight games played. They went on to win four games while drawing four other games. They were one of the very few teams in the qualification rounds to have finished without losing a single game. They missed out on a first-place finish by a point difference to eventual leaders Switzerland. The group consisted of the Swiss, Ireland, Georgia and the Gibraltans too in the mix. The Denish are coming into this tournament with an impressive recent record where they have lost just a solitary game in the last ten games. They can go a long way into the championship given they produce the same kind of performance.

Kasper Hjulmand is the coach of the Denmark national football team and has been quite magnificent with his antics with the strategies and decisions he is making all reflecting on a good on-field performance from the team. Barcelona number 9 Martin Braithwaite, Kasper Dolberg, Poulson, Cornelius and Wind are all the forwards. Inter regular Christian Erikson along with the Tottenham midfielder Hojbjerg, Thomas Delaney are all slotted to fill the midfield. Christenson, Kjaer, Vestergaard, and Wass constitute the defence line. Schmeichel is naturally slotted to keep the goal for Denmark.

Finland Form and Team News

Finland were the second team to qualify for the championships from group J with 18 points secured after playing ten matches. They won six and lost four games in the process. They were able to produce results in all ten games with zero draws to their name. Italy played out their best football to finish as the toppers of the group winning all the ten games they were part of. Greece, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Armenia and Liechtenstein completed the teams in the group, Even though Finland exhibited an inconsistent brand of football across the qualification rounds, they were able to make it to the championships because of the other weaker teams in the group. They have not won a game in the last six games and hope to upstage a comeback of sorts while in the championship and cause some upsets along the way.

Coach Markku Kanerva needs to reassess the team strategy and formation along with some tweaks to the squad in order to have any chance in the fast-moving EURO competitions. Teemu Pukki, Forss and Taylor comprise in the forward line along with Joel Pohjanpalo. Kamara, Robin Lod along with Jenson and Valakari form the midfield lineup. Arajuuri, Uronen, Hamalainen, Vaisanen with Thomas Lam form the backline. Hradecky or Joronen are expected to keep the goals.

Our Tipster’s Angle

Denmark given the current are favorites to win this Group B tie. Finland would need to produce a magical performance to topple the Danes. The game is expected to produce some goals and the team which shows better application would most probably turn out winners in the winner.

Tip 1: Total Goals under 2.5

Four of the last eight matches that Denmark have played across competitions have had the total goals to be under 2.5. While playing at home, Denmark have had three of their last six matches where the total goals have been under 2.5. Three of the last five qualification matches also had Denmark satisfying the above condition. In the case of Finland, Three of the last four matches played across competitions, have had the total goals to be under 2.5. Playing away, two of their last three matches also had the total goals to be under 2.5. Even though their only head to head match had over 2.5 goals, the form of both teams are contrary to what it used to be and so it’s quite likely the match will have under 2.5 goals. According to the Casumo Sportsbook, the odds for the total goals to be under 2.5 is 1.64.

Tip 2: Both teams not to score

In the last four matches played by Denmark across competitions, three of those have had both teams not to score. While playing at home, Four of the last five matches Denmark have played across competitions have had both teams not scoring. In EURO qualification matches, Denmark had five of the last six matches where both teams have not scored. Both of the last two matches Finland have been part of have had the above condition being satisfied. Playing away, the last match Finland was part of has turned out to have both teams not scoring. So it’s most likely both teams might not end up scoring. The odds for Both Teams not to score according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 1.50.

Conclusion

Denmark holds the aces in this game but Finland on their day can topple any team. An important game on the cards for the Dans to keep their winning streak going while the away side would hope to put a full-stop on that record. Summarising on a couple of bets from above:

  1. Total Goals under 2.5 @1.64
  2. Both teams not to score @ 1.50
