FC Porto vs Chelsea Betting Tips

FC Porto is hosting Chelsea in the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville on Thursday 8th April 2021 at 00:30 IST. The first leg of a tricky quarterfinal between Porto and Chelsea promises to give us several moments to savour going by the run of form the two teams are in the recent outings.

FC Porto Form & Team News

Porto finished the group stage in the second position of Group C which had biggies Man City too in the mix. In the pre-quarters, they presented a spectacle for the ages involving Juventus which finally had Porto winning on basis of the away goal advantage. In the Primeira Liga, they are the second-placed team with 57 points from 25 matches in total. They are behind leaders Sporting by eight points. They are playing the quarterfinals of the Champions League after three years when in 2018-19 season, they lost to eventual winners Liverpool. They would want to rectify that this season with an upset over Tuchel’s Chelsea. Porto is in splendid form going into this match but they are the underdogs against some of the costliest players in the world playing in Chelsea at the moment.

Porto will most likely line up with Marchesin at the goal, Manafa, Mbemba, Pepe and Sanusi in defence, and Jesus Corona, Uribe, Oliviera and Otavio would comprise in the middle of the park. Luis Diaz and Moussa Marega would probably start as the strikers. Conceicao just needs his team to continue the good form they have displayed over the recent weeks. Sergio Oliviera has scored five goals this season in CL alone making him the highest goal scorer for Porto. Jesus Corona, Moussa Marega and Luis Diaz have all shown good mettle throughout the season and would like to keep doing the basics right and hope for the results to go their way.

Chelsea Form & Team News

Chelsea finished second in Group H which was comparatively a tricky group consisting of Valencia, Ajax and Lilee in the folds. Chelsea in the pre-quarterfinals had been quite comprehensive with their victory over current la Liga leaders Atletico Madrid beating them 3-0. In the Premier League after the horrible start, they had to endure in the initial stages has overturned quite drastically with the introduction of the new manager in the middle of the season. They are presently in the fifth position in the points table with 51 points to their name. Chelsea in the last ten matches across competitions has managed to keep unbeaten in nine games of those losing just a solitary game to West Bromwich Albion while playing at home. Chelsea would want to erase their memories of the thrashing they received at the hands of the mighty Bayern last season and try to pave their way into the reckoning again after a blip in fortunes in recent times.

Talisman Thiago Silva, Christian Pullisic and Ngolo Kante are the three players set to miss out the next game owing to either injuries or suspensions. Tuchel doesn’t really have much of an injury-prone squad to worry about, but the quality of the players who might miss the next game is something that’ll trouble him. Olivier Giroud has been stellar to Chelsea’s revival this season with as many as six goals in CL alone. Timo Werner is finally getting his mojo back along with several other high profile signings this season are finding their footing at the right time. The game against Porto will test their resolve considering if Porto played the way they played against Ronaldo’s Juventus in the pre-quarters.

Our Tipster’s Angle

Chelsea have their tails up going into this fixture. Their form under the new manager has been quite splendid and even though this is an away game, Chelsea may as well carry the advantage going into the return fixture. Porto might need a miracle to upstage an upset here which is more or less the only way to stop Tuchel’s men.

Tip 1: Total Goals Under 2.5

In the last four head to head match between the two squads, three have ended with the total goals under 2.5. While playing at Porto, this record states two of the last three matches between the two sides have ended with the total goals under 2.5. Chelsea in all the last five away matches have seen all five with a scoreline of under 2.5 goals in total. In this tournament too, Chelsea have had their last three matches where their total goal count has been less than 2.5. Porto on the other hand had at least a fifty percent chance of their games ending with the total goals under 2.5 in their last four games. So this first leg round of eight tie between Porto and Chelsea is more likely to end with the total goals under 2.5. The odds for the Total Goals to be under 2.5 is 1.65 according to the Casumo Sportsbook.

Tip 2: Both Teams Not To Score

Three of the last four head to head matches between the two squads had ended with either one team scoring which in turn means both teams failed to score in those matches. In UEFA Champions League matches between the two sides, three of the last four matches did not have both teams scoring. Porto have a 50-50 probability of both teams scoring in their last four matches. Chelsea on the other hand have had eight of the last ten matches when both teams did not score in the same match. In this tournament, their last two matches too had seen both teams failing to get into the scoresheet in the same match. Thus we can conclude that both teams are less likely to score. According to the Casumo Sportsbook, the odds for Both teams to not score is 1.72.

Chelsea have the odds in their favour and their recent form is also testimony to that fact. But Porto is not expected to throw in the towel that easily. The best defence is likely to end up on the winning side.

  1. Total Goals Under 2.5 @ 1.65
  2. Both Teams Not To Score @ 1.72
