Italy vs Spain Betting Tips – Euro 2020 Semi Final Betting Tips

Italy and Spain are playing each other in the first semifinal on the 7th of July 2021 at 00:30 IST in the Wembley Stadium in London, England. Italy have been clinical in all their games while Spain are starting to look as deadly as ever. This match will have a lot of significance in the team’s future given the haunting troubled past they are presently carrying.

Italy Form and Team News

Italy was stretched by Belgium in the quarterfinal but had enough arsenal to keep the lead until the final whistle. The two early goals surely would’ve dented Belgium’s plan who were already injury-hit coming to the game. Nonetheless, Italy are still unbeaten and that record is kept intact. One of Italy’s records was broken in the round of 16 game, they had never conceded in nine games before that and Austria just managed to break that jinx, Italy won their respective round of 16 clash beating Austria two goals to one. Italy in the third group game against the formidable Wales were still able to keep records intact and in turn, win the game. They kept a clean slate while also scoring one goal to keep their unbeaten streak alive. Italy continued their domination in the second game with a 3-0 showing against the Swiss as well increasing their winning run furthermore. They won the first game by the same margin as well. Italy are a serious contender for the championship and unless for any major hiccup they should be able to pull it off as well. They are facing a rejuvenated Spain in the much-anticipated semifinal at Wembley.

Coach Roberto Mancini has been quite magnificent with his tactics and strategies in the recent games of Italy and would hope to keep the same momentum next set of games as well. In the last game, Locatelli and Ciro Immobile are the top scorers for the Italians in the competitions so far with two goals each. Insigne and Barella scored the goals in the last game and were splendid throughout. PSG regular Verratti too was at his best in the last game, assisting for the all-important opening goal of the night. Chilleni coming back to the central defense was a huge relief for the Italians.

Spain Form and Team News

Spain never had it easy against the Swiss in the last game, they had to win in the penalties after the stalemate in regular time. They are still not managing to net in the number of goals expected from them after all the buildup and passing game. They could come undone against a formidable lineup if they continue to lack the finishing mentality. Spain turned up against Croatia in the round of 16 with full determination to just win and nothing. The Croatians still managed to force extra time after coming back from two goals down to equalize in the dying minutes, but Spain still had enough legs to net in two more goals to eventually win the thrilling round of 16 game. Spain let loose in the last group game against Slovakia and scored the highest number of goals for any team in a match. They netted as many as five goals against a hapless Slovakian defense and could’ve added more given they did not miss the penalty. Spain had to be content with two draws in the first two group games. They now need to keep doing what they did right in the last game and score goals more often than not.

Former Barcelona superstar manager Luis Enrique had taken over the coaching duties of the Spanish national team some time ago. He has so far been decent with his strategies and team selections. He has a very young side at his hands which can be made into the world-beating side that Spain in the early 2010s’ were in some years time. This team has the potential to reach that point. One major setback is that their talisman captain Sergio Ramos would miss the tournament. The front three was dismal to say nonetheless in the last game, they just couldn’t find the back of the net. Pedri and Captain Bosquets along with Koke were a treat to watch. Jordi Alba and Torres in defense also had a good game. Simon was spectacular in the shootouts as well.

Our Tipster’s Angle

The Knockouts are here and Spain cannot afford to be casual anymore and just when they seemed to have realized it, the last game just showed what they are lacking in the finishing third, while the Italians have been dominant throughout the course of the tourney. Italy given the all-round abilities and prowess probably are inches ahead of Spain in this game. Spain if they correct the attacking mistakes they are making, still can topple the favorites.

Tip 1: Total Goals over 2.5

Italy have been part of some high-scoring matches off-late. They have had six games in the last seven matches where the total goal count was over 2.5. Playing as the host across competitions, Italy have had four of their last five games have also seen over 2.5 goals in total. Spain on the other hand have also been involved in similar matches off-late. Two of the last three matches Spain have played have had the above satisfied. While playing as the away side like in this case, three of their last four away matches also had the total goals to be over 2.5. Whenever the chips are down Lucho has managed to turn the tables for the Spanish side and Italy if stretched could bring in another dimension of their game as well, So it’s quite likely this match could well have over 2.5 goals in total. The odds for total goals to be over 2.5 according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 2.25.

Tip 2: Both teams to score

Both of the last two matches played by Italy across competitions have had both teams score. While playing as the host, the last match that Italy played against Austria also did have both teams scoring. Three of the last four matches that Spain have been part of have had the above condition being satisfied. Playing away, four of the last five matches involving Spain have had both teams score. Two of their last four head to head matches have also had the above condition satisfied. While playing with the Italians as the host, Four of their last five head to head match has also had both teams scoring, so it’s most likely both teams might end up scoring. The odds for Both Teams to score according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 1.89.

Conclusion

Both teams have had a troubled past after their respective WorldCup reigns and a win here could somewhat put the demons to rest and continue building their legacy over it after that. Summarising on a couple of bets from above:

  1. Total goals over 2.5 @ 2.25
  2. Both teams to score @ 1.89
