Italy vs Switzerland – Euro 2020 Betting Tips

Italy are hosting Switzerland in the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy on the 17th of June 2021 at 00:30 IST. Italy are well and truly back and truly starting to make a statement after their failed World Cup qualification in 2018, they are winning everything on the way and are looking like strong contenders for the cup. Switzerland on the other hand would be ruing their luck for not being able to close out the last game. 

Italy Form and Team News

A 3-0 win on the opening night against the much-fancied Turkey has put to rest any doubt about the form Italy have been carrying for some time now. They are looking close to a near-perfect squad with their performances over a period of time which has translated into wins as well which is the most important thing going forward.  Italy along with Belgium are carrying an outstanding record coming into the competitions, they were the only two teams to have won all the games in the qualification rounds. Both won all ten games from their respective groups. Italy were part of Group J which had relatively lesser threatening teams like Finland, Greece and Bosnia & Herzegovina in the ranks, the path for Italy was more or less on the easier side. They scored as many as 37 goals while conceding just a meagre four goals in the process. 

Coach Roberto Mancini has been quite magnificent with his tactics and strategies in the recent games of Italy and would hope to keep the same momentum next set of games as well. In the last game, strikers Immobile and Insigne were at their lethal best. Both of whom returning with goals to their name. Jorghino along with Locatteli were also on the mark in that game. Captain Chilleni in defence was a rock along with Bonucci and help from Spinnazzola, Donnaruma did not get many chances to show his weight in that game showing the dominance of the Italian defence. 

Switzerland Form and Team News

Switzerland were landing blows after blows in the first game against a clueless Wales in the first half and they continued to build on that in the second half as well netting in a goal also in the process, but let loose in the latter part of the game and conceded a goal to having settle for a draw. Switzerland qualified as the number one team from Group D with 17 points gathered from eight games played. They won as many as five games to go with just a loss. They also drew a couple of games in the process. Group D was a relatively easy group for the Swiss consisting of Denmark who finished as the second team to qualify, Ireland, Georgia and Gibraltor too in the ranks. The Swiss are presently on a five-match winning streak coming into the all-important EURO competition. They are part of a tricky Group A consisting of Italy, Wales and the Turks. Switzerland given their present form are surely expected to qualify nonetheless.

Coach Petkovic after the seven-match hiccup where the Swiss were not able to win any games has managed to turn around the form and turn them into the winning machine they are now. He would hope that the team carries the momentum into the EURO’s and go a long way into the tourney. Embolo was easily the best player on the pitch in the last game with the likes of Shaqiri, Rodriguez, Elvedi and Akanji too being able to make the presence felt. Their talisman Xhaka had an off game and would be hoping to turn it around quickly.

 Italy are displaying the rampant form and are steamrolling every opposition on the way, Switzerland on the other hand could’ve continued on the winning streak after the last game but it was not to be. Italy looks like favourites to continue on winning and keeping the streak going while Switzerland would hope to show their best and try toppling the former World Champs. 

Tip 1: Italy Total Goals over 1.5

Italy are scoring goals for fun in the last few matches and are being able to find the back of the net quite frequently, this comes down to the chances they are creating, the midfield is creating chances after chances for the attack to capitalize on and while this is happening, the opposition defense could well tumble after the series of attacks and in-turn concede at some point of the match. Italy have always been known for their watertight defence but this side is something that very few expected. They have scored over 1.5 goals in all of their last nine games while also at home they have a 100% probability of scoring because of the fact that they were able to do so in the last five home games to put weight on that fact. So it’s quite likely that Italy Total Goals would be over 1.5 in the game against Switzerland on Thursday. According to the Casumo Sportsbook, the odds for Italy to score Total goals over 1.5 is 1..88. 

Tip 2: Both teams not to score

As said above in terms of Italy’s goal-scoring attributes, one more mind-blowing fact is that Italy hasn’t conceded any goals in all their last nine games.
