Leicester City vs Southampton Betting Tips

Leicester City are hosting Southampton at the Wembley Stadium in London on the 18th of April 2021 at 23.00 IST. This FA cup semifinal played over just one leg is sure to give us some great moments. Both teams are not in great form but this match could well and truly turn it around for either of them.

Leicester City Form & Team News

Leicester City in the FA Cup this year started their campaign from the Round three competitions. They beat Stoke City in round three with a scoreline of four goals to nil. In the round four competitions, Leicester beat Brentford with a scoreline of 3-1. In the pre-quarterfinals, they beat Brighton and Hove Albion by a goal to nil. Leicester City in the quarterfinals beats Premier League giants Manchester United by a convincing margin too. Leicester have played collectively well in the FA Cup but have been lacking the same in the Premier League with lackluster showings in the recent weeks. They need to win the FA Cup this season and probably that will help them to carry the momentum into the other competitions as well.

James Maddinson, Hamza Chowdary and Ayoze Perez are doubtful for the next game as a result of disciplinary actions. Harver Barnes with a knee injury, James Justin with an ACL injury and Wes Morgan with back injury are all expected to miss the next game. Kelechi Iheanacho has netted three goals in the competition while the likes of Youri Tielemans and Under have all managed to shake the inside netting. Vardy as always will be a force to be reckoned with at any stage of the game.

Southampton Form & Team News

Southampton joined into the FA Cup this year with the round three competitions. They beat Shrewsbury Town at home by two goals to nil in the round three match. In Round Four, they faced Arsenal at home again. They beat Arsenal by a margin of one goal. In the Pre-Quarterfinals, Wolverhampton were the opposition for Southampton. 2-0 was the scoreline at the end, Southampton winning it comfortably. In the quarterfinals, Southampton beat Bournemouth three goals to nil thus progressing into the semifinals to face Leicester City. Southampton have a bad head to head record against Leicester which they would want to correct and win here would act as the much-needed boost for them.

Oriol Romeu is out with an ankle injury while the likes of William Smallbone and Michael Obafemi are all set to miss the crucial semifinal against Leicester City on Sunday at Wembley. Nathan Remount has shown top form netting two goals for his side in the FA Cup this year while Danny Ings, Djenepo, Lundulu, Ward-Prowse and Armstrong have all managed to score a goal each in this edition of the FA Cup. A collective effort will help them topple the side from Leicester and enter the finals to face either Man City or Chelsea.

Our Tipster’s Angle

As suggested in the odds, Leicester could well end up on the winning side. This is due to the fact that they have a better head to head record over Southampton and also a slightly better recent record. Goals are expected to be in plenty. Southampton is by no means a weak team, but Leicester have the experience of having played before in semifinals and finals which makes them less likely to succumb under pressure.

Tip 1: Leicester City to Win

In the 17 games played between the two sides, Leicester City have won in nine matches while four have ended as stalemates. Southampton has managed to win just four games in those which shows the dominance exerted by the Leicester City team. While playing at Leicester too, in the nine completed matches, Leicester has won the most i.e. four games while Southampton had just won two games. Both teams are struggling in their own ways, but comparatively, Leicester are in a better position because they won a game more than Southampton in the last ten games. Also given it’s a cup knockout game, Leicester will have the added advantage of having been in similar situations before while Southampton are more or less not so experienced playing in cup semifinals. So it is more likely Leicester will win this match. The odds for Leicester City to win is 1.89 according to the Casumo Sportsbook.

Tip 2: Total Goals over 2.5

In the last four head to head matches between the two sides across competitions, they have had three games where the total goals have been more than 2.5. While playing at Leicester, in the last three head to head matches, two have ended with the scoreline having more than 2.5 goals. Leicester City in the last five matches played across competitions have had a total of four games where the total goal count has been over 2.5. At home, they have had three of the last four matches where the total goal count has been over 2.5. Southampton have a 100 percent probability of the total goals being over 2.5 in their last five matches. Playing away, all of their last three matches have had the total goals over 2.5. Thus with the above stats, we can say the total goals to be over 2.5 on Sunday. According to the Casumo Sportsbook, the odds for the total goals to be over 2.5 is 1.88.

Conclusion

This has been a high-scoring rivalry over the last four head to head matches now. The match on Sunday is expected to nothing different. The best defense on the given day will end up on the winning side. Summarising on a couple of bets from above:

  1. Leicester City To Win @1.89
  2. Total Goals Over 2.5 @ 1.88
