Liverpool vs Chelsea Betting Tips

Liverpool are hosting Chelsea at the Anfield in Liverpool on 5th March 2021 at 01:45 IST. Both teams vying for a place in the top four in the points table given a win for either side. A marauding Chelsea against a depleted Liverpool who have been indifferent from their usual self this season promises to reignite the classic rivalry between the Reds and the Blues.

Liverpool Form & Team News

Liverpool are placed at the fifth position in the Premier League points table. They have played 26 games and have secured 43 points in total. They have won 12 games while drawing seven games and losing seven. They have scored 47 goals and conceded 34 in the process. Their current form is pretty bad considering they have lost six games out of the last ten matches played across competitions. In the premier league, their last match against Sheffield United resulted in a win for Liverpool. They had won 2-0 in the away fixture. But before this match, they had lost four on the trot.  Liverpool will have to replicate all the good things they had done in the previous match and try to halt Chelsea’s great run.

Caoimhin Kelleher, Diogo Jota, Diogo Jota, Fabinho, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk are the injured player’s list in the Liverpool squad. Klopp may as well try going with the same team given their morale boosting victory against Sheffield United. The trio of Salah, Mane and Firmino have a combined total of 30 goals this season. Mohamed Salah is the highest scorer of them all with 17 goals while Firmino and Robertson have been prolific with assists this season having assisted for five goals each. The best trio going around in football right now combined with a defense that has been ordinary this season have to find back their mojo to take Liverpool closer to the top four from here on.

Chelsea Form & Team News

Chelsea are the fifth placed team in the Premier League points table. Having won 12 games from 26 matches, losing six games and drawing eight games, Chelsea presently have a total of 44 points. They have been unbeaten in the last ten matches with seven wins and three draws to their name. Their away record is on the average side considering they have won six games from  13 away matches losing four matches in the process. Their last match was against Manchester United at home which turned out to be a thrilling draw. Chelsea would be keen to keep the momentum going into the end of the season and finish in the top four which guarantees a Champions League berth as well.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Thiago Silva are the two players on the injured list of Chelsea. Tuchel has had a great start to his coaching stint with Chelsea having had to start midseason after the stop-start Lampard era. Since Odoi was injured in the last game against Manchester United, Reece James might get a nod to play the next game. Tammy Abraham is the highest goal scorer for Chelsea with six goals while the likes of Jorginho, Werner, Mount, Zouma, Giroud all have chipped with at least four goals respectively. Timo Werner has had five assists this season making him the highest in the assists charts for Chelsea.

Our Tipster’s Angle

Chelsea may finish on the winning side given their brilliant all-round play over the last few games. Liverpool are on the back of a win against Sheffield United but against an in-form Chelsea team, they would find it difficult considering their record at Anfield in the last five matches.

Tip 1: Total Cards Under 3.5

At home, in the 13 matches that they have played in this season, Liverpool have had an average of just one card per match. Chelsea while playing away this season in the 13 games, have had an average of 1.54 cards per match. Overall Liverpool have an average of 1.12 cards and Chelsea have an average of 1.35 cards this season, which would make for a total of not more than three cards in the match. In the last four matches, Liverpool have received under two cards per match. On the other side, Chelsea in their last four matches have seen more than one card in just one game where they got two cards while the rest have been either one card or zero cards. Thus we can say that the total cards in this match will be under 3.5. The odds for the total cards to be under 3.5 is 1.95 according to the Casumo Sportsbook.

Tip 2: Total Goals Under 3

In the last 14 head to head matches between Liverpool and Chelsea, seven games have had the total goals to be under three. While playing in Liverpool, the head to head stat says they scored under three goals in total in five matches of the last eight matches. In the last three games of Liverpool, the total goals were under three on all three occasions. Chelsea has had five matches in the last five where the total goal count were been less than three. Seven matches of the last ten head to head matches in this tournament have also had fewer than three total goals. So it is more likely that the total goal to be under three for this match. According to the Casumo Sportsbook, the odds for the total goals to be under three is 1.61.

Both sides are evenly matched on paper. But going by the form, Chelsea have the upper hand and is most likely to come out on top against a morally depleted Liverpool side who have been losing more than winning in recent times. With a place in the top four at stake, we can expect a good tough game. Summarising a couple of bets above.

  1. Total Cards Under 3.5 @ 1.95
  2. Total Goals Under 3 @ 1.61
