Lyon vs Marseille Betting Tips

Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon) will face Olympique de Marseille in the match week 14 of the French Ligue 1 2021-22 season at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday. 

Olympique Lyonnais are going through a difficult season where they’ve only managed to register 19 points after 13 matches played, staggering 15 behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

In the last six league outings, Lyon have only managed to register eight points out of the possible 18 which left them reeling at the ninth position on the league table.

Those performances have increased pressure on manager Peter Bosz and he will be hoping for a much better display from his players in the matches to come.

Olympique de Marseille will enter the contest on Sunday slightly shaken as well after suffering a defeat in their previous outing against Lille.

That performance left Les Olympiens in the fourth position of the league table with 23 points after 13 matches played, 11 behind leaders PSG.

Both teams have faced off in 49 matches previously where Lyon clearly have a better record with 20 wins compared to Marseille’s 10 victories whereas 19 matches ended as a draw. 

In the last six league meetings, Les Gones emerged victorious thrice whereas Les Olympiens came out on top just once and two matches ended in a stalemate. 

Olympique Lyonnais Form and Team news: 

Les Gones’ task on Sunday will not going to be an easier one as not only they will face an in-form team but also they are likely to be without a few of their star players.

Midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide, defender Marcelo and striker Philana Tinotenda Kadewere will not take part in the match against Marseille whereas star striker Moussa Dembele and defender Leo Dubois remain doubtful for the fixture.

In the absence of such key players, the onus will be on the likes of Lucas Paquetá, Houssem Aouar and Karl Toko Ekambi to put their hand up and make their presence felt in an important clash.

Olympique de Marseille Form and Team News:

Manager Jorge Sampaoli will be hoping to see his players produce a much better display than they’ve in the previous outing.

On the injuries front, Marseille does not have much to worry about as winger Cengiz Under remains the only high-profile player likely to miss the fixture but defender Leonardo Balerdi is certain to not take any part in the proceedings due to suspension.

Both teams are coming in the fixture after having mixed results in the recent past which is why it is hard to predict an outright winner. 

On paper, Marseille look to have a far more solid squad compared to Lyon who are also struggling with injuries to a number of their key players. 

However, Les Gones will be playing in front of the home crowd which might be enough to fill the void created by the absence of key players. Therefore, the prediction is for a draw in a closely fought contest.
