Spain vs Sweden – Euro 2020 Betting Tips

Spain are hosting Sweden in Estadio De La Cartuja in Seville, Spain on the 15th of June 2021 at 00:30 IST. Sweden are looking ominous even without their great striker Zlatan while Spain are struggling to capitalise on crucial stages to close out the game. A Tantalising game on the cards in Sevilla on Monday.

Spain Form and Team News

Spain were part of Group F in the EURO qualification rounds with the likes of Sweden, Norway, Romania, Faroe Islands and Malta being the other teams in the group. With 26 points from eight games played, Spain topped the group. They won eight and drew two games in the process. They never lost a game in the campaign which is a very good record to have. We can say, Spain were as dominant as ever in the tournament scoring a lot of goals while also managing to keep the opposition scoring relatively low as well. Spain in the last ten matches have started to show a bit of inconsistency given they have just won four games in the ten played while drawing a massive five games. Spain if they are to repeat 2012 heroics this time around, would need a special team to do it, which would be a bit harsh to ask for from this young team, but they still have all the potential to do it nonetheless.

Former Barcelona superstar manager Luis Enrique had taken over the coaching duties of the Spanish national team some time ago. He has so far been decent with his strategies and team selections. He has a very young side at his hands which can be made into the world-beating side that Spain in the early 2010s’ were in some years time. This team has the potential to reach that point. One major setback is that their talisman captain Sergio Ramos would miss the tournament. Morata, Traore and Moreno would be the forwards, youngster Pedri, Thiago Alcantara, Busquests, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres, and Marcos Llorente would cover up the midfield with others. Alba, Azpilicueta, Laporte, Garcia would be the first choice back four with De Gea expect at goal.

Sweden Form and Team News

In the EURO qualification rounds, Sweden were part of Group F. They finished as the number two team in the group with 21 points from ten games played. They won six games while losing just one game in the process. They also did draw three games in the campaign. They were decent throughout the campaign, scoring in goals and also conceded a lesser number as well. The group was topped by Spain who are again part of the same group as that of Sweden in the EURO main group as well. They would be facing off against each other on Tuesday as the first match for either side in the competition. In the last ten matches, Sweden have won six games while losing four games as well. They presently are on a five-match winning streak coming into the tournament. Sweden can move far into the championship given for a win in the first game against giants Spain and carry forward that momentum into the rest of the games which probably is the way forward.

Coach Jan Anderson, the Swedish National Football team coach has been guiding the team quite well in the recent past and that is starting to reflect on the results column as well. After a four-match losing streak in the last ten matches, Jan managed to pull the team up and win all their last five matches going into the elite tournament. He will look at one game at a time and get the desired results with the team. Kulasevski, Isak, Forsberg, Berg and Larsson comprise in the forward line. Quaison, Svanberg, Ken Sema, Ekdal, and Cajuste in the midfield. Victor Lindelof, Augustinsson, Jansson, Emil Krafth and Helander being the defence line, and Olsen probably keeping goal.

Our Tipster’s Angle

Spain have a better head to head record here against the Swedish where they have won on three occasions while losing just a single game. The recent record though, shows Sweden being the better team. Spain have been drawing a lot of games off late as well which could also be the case on Tuesday, but they look the favourites given their team strength to win this tie.

Tip 1: Total Goals over 2.5

In the case of Sweden, in the last seven matches played, they have had four games where the total goals were over 2.5. Playing away across competitions, four of their last five matches also had the total goals to be over 2.5. Three of the last five matches that Spain have played across competitions have had the total goals to be over 2.5. While playing at home, Spain have had two of their last three matches where the total goals have been over 2.5. Out of their last four head to head matches, they have had three matches where the total goals were over 2.5. While playing head to head in Spain, they have all two of the last two games where the total goals were over 2.5. So it’s quite likely the match will have over 2.5 goals. According to the Casumo Sportsbook, the odds for the total goals to be over 2.5 is 2.04.

Tip 2: Both teams to score

Two of the last three head to head matches between the two sides also had yielded the condition as mentioned above. In the last seven matches played by Spain across competitions, five of those have had both teams score. Two of three home matches that Spain have played lately have had both teams score. The last matches Sweden have been part of have had the above condition being satisfied. Playing away, one of the last two matches Sweden was part of has turned out to have both teams scoring. So it’s most likely both teams might end up scoring. The odds for Both Teams to score according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 2.20.

Conclusion

Spain may not be the same as they were in the early 2010s but they still have a team to beat any team on any given day, Sweden on the other hand given for a win here would be throw in their hat for contention as well. Summarising on a couple of bets from above:

  1. Total goals over 2.5 @ 2.04
  2. Both teams to score @ 2.20
