The Czech Republic vs England – Euro 2020 Betting Tips

The battle of group supremacy is all set to unfold with this match, the winner shall top the group while the losers shall either be number two or three which could come back to bite in the latter part of the competition. England and The Czech Republic are facing each other in their respective opening game of EURO 2020 at the Wembley Stadium in London on the 23rd of June 2021 at 00:30 IST.

Czech Republic Form and Team News

The Czech Republic could’ve easily buried the last game against Croatia after scoring the first goal, but, Croatia found a way back and scored to return home a point. The Czech Republic were facing Scotland in the first game and both sides were almost near in the FIFA rankings as well, but after the game, the Czech were clinical in their win against the Scots notching up a two-goal GD in the process and climbing to the top of the table. In the EURO qualification rounds, Czech Republic were part of Group A with the likes of England, Kosovo, Bulgaria and Montenegro too in the mix. The Czech Republic finished as the number two team in the group with 15 points from eight games played. They won five games while losing the rest three games in the process. They also did not draw any games in the campaign. They did not score many goals with just 13 strikes in the back of the net and also conceded 11 goals. Czech would need to win the game against Croatia and carry forward the momentum gathered from there into the last toughest game when they face off against England in round three.

Patrick Schick played as the lone striker in the team against The Czech Republic in the first game but boy did he did reply back to his critics in some style. He probably has already scored the goal of the tournament against Scotland, also struck home a penalty in the second game. Captain Darida also had a good game in that context and managed to give some key passes to Schick. Totally Czech played as a team and all members of the squad were equally impressive. Coach Jaroslav Silhavy will be mindful of the inconsistency factor looming over his side’s game, he would need to address that immediately which could prove as the telling difference between a Czech team that could be and a Czech team that is present.

England Form and Team News

England have been lacklustre even with four points in the group stage playing too defensively in the process, they had to procure a dull draw against Scotland in the second game. England in the first game against Croatia was pretty dominant from start to end, but that didn’t really translate into goals nonetheless, Croatia defended with all their heart and looked to score as well which thankfully didn’t happen if you are an English supporter while also managing to scrape through to victory, the England side. England cruised through the qualification round with a commanding campaign filled with goals and wins along the way. After the eight games played, they won as many as seven matches while losing just a game. They scored the second-highest number of goals in the campaign netting 37 goals in the eight games. They just conceded six goals in the process. They finished as the number one team from Group A scoring 21 points with the likes of the Czech Republic coming in a distant second with 15 points.

Coach Gareth Southgate has had a stellar start to his coaching career over the years with the national team and is looking all set to translate that into winning more trophies which considering the team he has at his disposal is not a tough thing to do. The defence did what was asked of them in the last game with everyone contributing to the best of their ability to not let the opposition score. But the attacking players needed to produce something upfront which didn’t happen as well thus leaving the English team to settle for a draw.

Our Tipster’s Angle

England given the form they are in look favourites but the Czech Republic have played a good brand of football in this competition which none of us expected to be honest. They can topple the English if they are able to replicate anything similar to have they have been doing so far. England need to pull up their socks after the rather dismal show in the last game against Scotland at home.

Tip 1: England Total Goals over 1.5

England are in brilliant goal-scoring form with their famed attack consisting of Kane, and co. They have had five of their last ten games where they have managed to score over 1.5 goals as a team. This is across all competitions while playing at home too, this record is equally impressive with four of their last eight matches being able to produce goals and to be precise, England scoring over 1.5 goals all by themselves. Two of their last three head to head matches with The Czech Republic have also seen that the above condition have been satisfied. Even while they head to head at home, they have a similar record as well. So it’s likely that England would have a total goal tally of over 1.5 goals in the next fixture against the Czech Republic. The odds for that is 1.81 according to the Casumo Sportsbook.

Tip 2: The Czech Republic Total Goals over 0.5

Seven of The Czech Republic’s last nine games have seen them scoring over 0.5 goals in them. This was played across the EURO, Friendlies, World Cup Qualifiers, and the Nations League. While playing at home in the above competitions, all five of the last five matches have seen over 0.5 goals in total scored by The Czech Republic football team. Two of the last three head to head matches between England and The Czech Republic have also seen the latter score over 0.5 goals. One of their last two head to head matches against England playing at Wembley away also puts the above statement into full effect. So it’s most likely that The Czech Republic could well score over 0.5 goals in the next match. According to the Casumo Sportsbook, the odds for that is 1.83.

Conclusion

Both teams need to win to top the group while a draw would be enough for the Czech Republic to maintain their present state. England would be hoping to turn the boos they got from their home crowd into a roar at the end of this game. Summarising on a couple of bets from above:

  1.     England Total goals over 1.5 @ 1.81
  2.     The Czech Republic Total goals over 0.5 @ 1.83.
