Turkey Form and Team News

Turkey came into the Euro 2020 with a  second-place finish in the Qualification round getting 23 points from the ten games played in the competition. They were in group H along with France and Iceland being the other top teams. France qualified as the group toppers while Iceland failed to make the cut. Turkey during the process won as many as seven games losing just a solitary game against ousted Iceland. They drew against France in one of the games while also upsetting the World Champions with a thumping win playing at home. Turkey being the 29th ranked team as per the FIFA ranking surely has the capabilities of staging a great show in this tournament.

Senol Gunes is the coach of the Turkey international team. Lille forward Yilmaz, Getafe based Unal, Kenan Karaman and Dervisoglu are the forwards in the Turks camp while the likes of Milan superstar Calhenglu, Cengiz Under, Yazici, Yokuslu, Tufan and co. comprise in the mid-field. The defenders Juventus regular Demiral, Kabak, Celk,  Ayhan and co. will have their task cut out in the defence. Fenerbahce regular Altay Bayindr will probably be on the goal.

Italy Form and Team News

Italy along with Belgium are carrying an outstanding record coming into the competitions, they were the only two teams to have won all the games in the qualification rounds. Both won all ten games from their respective groups. Italy were part of Group J which had relatively lesser threatening teams like Finland, Greece and Bosnia & Herzegovina in the ranks, the path for Italy was more or less on the easier side. They scored as many as 37 goals while conceding just a meagre four goals in the process. They are presently on an unbeaten streak with their last loss coming way back in 2019 before more than 20 games. They are also currently on an eight-match winning streak coming into the Euro opener against the Turks on Sunday. Italy start as one of the hot favourites going by the recent record.

Coach Roberto Mancini has been quite magnificent with his tactics and strategies in the recent games of Italy and would hope to keep the same momentum coming into the EURO this season. The squad consists of several superstar players from the club football. The likes of Immobile, Insigne, Benardeschi and Belotti comprise in the attacking front while Jorghino, Chiesa, Veratti and Pellegrini fill the midfield. Veterans Bonucci and Chiellini with Florenzi, Palmieri and Bastoni constitute the defence line. Milan regular and future superstar Donnarumma will guard the goal.

Our Tipster’s Angle

Italy going by the recent record hold all the aces going into this game. These two teams haven’t met too many times in the past, their only meeting coming way back in 2000 which went Italy’s way as well. Turkey cannot be taken lightly by any means, but the fact that Italy are in the best possible position coming into this game makes them favourites to win this game.

Tip 1: Total Goals under 2.5

Italy in the last six matches have played out five matches wherein the number of total goals scored in the match was under 2.5. This is across competitions like Int. Friendly games, World Cup Qualifiers and the UEFA Nations League. Playing away, all of their last five games have had the total goals to be under 2.5 i.e. they have a 100% record of keeping the total goals under 2.5 in the last five away games. Turkey too on the other hand have had the last two games they have been involved in where the total goals were under 2.5. Some of the other matches have had them involved in some high-scoring games but the opposition have never been a top team in any of those matches which might not be the case when they face Italy. So it’s quite likely that the match would have under 2.5 goals. According to the Casumo Sportsbook, the odds for the total goals to be under 2.5 is 1.64.

Tip 2: Both teams not to score

In seven of the last eight games, Italy were involved across competitions like the World Cup Qualifiers, Nations League and the Intl. Friendlies have had both teams not to score. Playing away, Italy have managed to keep a 100% record of both teams not to score scenarios. They have had all of their last five matches where the above conditions were met. Four of the last seven matches that Turkey were involved in have had the above condition satisfied. Both of their last home games have also had both teams not to score scenarios satisfied. Thus its is least likely that both teams will score in the Euro opener on Sunday. The odds for both teams not to score according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 1.62.

Conclusion

The much-awaited Euro opener between Turkey and Italy on Sunday is probably going to result in any of the two teams breaking the unbeaten streak given a win for either team. It is sure to produce some cracking football with several of the Club football giants set to lock horns in national colours. Summarising on a couple of bets from above:

  1. Total Goals under 2.5 @1.64.
  2. Both teams not to score @ 1.62.
