Would you like to know more about Roulette and how to play it?

What is Roulette?

Roulette is a casino game in which a small ball is thrown into a revolving roulette wheel with numbers and coloured slots. Before the wheel starts turning, you can place bets on numbers, trying to predict where the little ball will stop. There are several variants of the game, including, French Roulette, American Roulette and European Roulette.

The game originated in France, with the word roulette meaning ‘little wheel’ in French. This is why you’ll often hear French betting terms being called out by the dealer, even in online versions of the game (for example, sometimes you’ll hear a croupier say ‘faites vos jeux’ meaning ‘place your bets’ or ‘rien ne va plus’ which means ‘no more bets’). The first form of Roulette dates back to the 18th century and it has changed very little over the years. In fact, the game as we know it has been played since 1796. In the 19th century, Roulette became very popular in casinos, spreading all over Europe and the US. Live Roulette has since become one of the most popular and famous games, in both land-based and online casinos.

These are the types of Live Roulette available to play at Casumo

The classic version

Here at Casumo Live Casino we offer several classic live roulette games, including a table we designed ourselves. Then we have several types from Evolution Gaming which include French Roulette, American Roulette, European Roulette as well as Double Ball Roulette and other variations.

Whether you play on our own table or on any of the live Roulette tables we offer, we think you’ll have a great time. The live roulette dealers hosting the games will make sure that bets are placed on time and that the experience is a smooth one for all the players sitting at the table.

Lightning Roulette

Lightning Roulette is a live dealer game that blends traditional live Roulette elements with advanced RNG (random number generation) gameplay.

Lightning Roulette offers a unique player experience since on top of the usual Roulette bets you get extra chances to win with added Lucky Numbers and Lucky Payouts. In each game round, between one and five Lucky Numbers are struck by lightning, multiplying payouts between 50 and 500 times the bet.

The Lightning Roulette visuals are quite stunning, adding to the thrills of this live casino game. Lightning Roulette can be played by an unlimited number of concurrent players.

The difference between Live Roulette and Online Roulette

Well, you’ve already guessed it, right? The main difference between Live Roulette and Online Roulette is that live roulette is presented in real-time, within a live studio, by a real dealer, while ordinary online roulette is a software-based game where you play against the computer and start a spin yourself.

In live dealer Roulette, you’ll feel like you’re sitting at the table in a genuine traditional land-based casino. There might be other players around the same table, which adds to the live atmosphere. In a software-operated online roulette game, you’ll be playing alone, but you can switch on or off a variety of features, such as dealer’s voice, background music, sound effects, quick spin where available and automatic bet controls.

In live Roulette, the use of sensors ensures that results can be converted into data for the players to see.

The dealer is alive!

When playing live dealer Roulette at Casumo there’s actually a real human made of flesh and blood standing in front of the camera. The dealer’s role is to run the show, calling out for bets, flicking the ball when bets close, chat with players to make their experience as enjoyable as possible, call out the winning bets and perform other actions to ensure the game runs smoothly.

Live dealer Roulette offers a layer of social interaction where players can chat with each other in real time. They can also chat with the dealer via a text-based chat room – dealers read player messages, then give their reply through their microphone, greatly enhancing the feeling that you’re there in person.

All of our live dealer Roulette games are broadcast in real time, via high definition streaming video from live casino studios. You’ll feel as if you’re inside a land-based casino, playing against real dealers and competing against real players–but without having to leave the comfort of your favourite couch.

How to play Live Roulette

A game of Live Roulette starts when you place your bet on any single number, a combination of numbers, red or black, odd or even, on numbers between 1 and 36 and the 0 (and also 00 if playing the American Roulette version of the game). You then hold your breath as you watch the croupier spin the roulette wheel in one direction and toss the little ball in the opposite direction. The number the ball lands on wins the game.

Zooming in on the game

When you play Casumo Live Roulette via your desktop or laptop you will see a dealer on your screen. The dealer will be sitting behind the Roulette table, with the revolving wheel in full view. On your screen you will also be able to see the player chat, racetrack betting, and your bet options, as well as statistics with a history of gameplay for up to 500 game rounds.

Casumo Live Roulette

If you access our live casino from your mobile device, you will see the Roulette racetrack on your screen, with all the numbers on which you can bet. From the menus, you will be able to trigger the video mode to see the live dealer and the spinning wheel, as well as other game options.

The Roulette wheel has 37 slots, numbered 0 to 36. The aim of the game is to predict into which slot the ball will stop. Between one round and another, the dealer asks players to place their bets for the next round of play. The dealer will call again, informing the players that bets are closed, then tosses the ball into the revolving wheel. After the ball stops on a number, the winning number will appear on the screen and payouts are made according to the paytable. To view the paytable, open the Help section and select Payouts from the menu.

Placing Bets

The dealer invites you to place your bets at the start of every game round. To place a bet, just tap a number or the area of the table where you want to place your bet.

If you want to change the chip value, you can do so by opening the side menu and select the chip you want to use.

These are the types of bets you can place:

Inside bet – a wager placed directly on the numbers 0 to 36 at the middle of the betting table (and also 00 if playing American Roulette). There are 5 types of inside bets which are:

  • Straight – placed on a single number by placing a chip directly on the desired number.
  • Split – placed on the line between two adjacent numbers. You can win if the ball stops on one of those two numbers.
  • Three line – sometimes called a street bet and is placed on a row of three numbers. This is done by placing a chip on the line at the start of one of the 12 rows.
  • Corner – placed on four numbers, done by placing a chip on the intersecting corner of four numbers.
  • Six line – placed on six numbers by selecting 2 rows of 3 numbers, excluding 0. To make a six line bet, place a chip on the start of the line that separates the 2 rows.

Outside bet – a wager placed around the field of numbers. Outside bets are less risky than inside bets but with a lower payout. An outside bet can be any of the following 5 types:

  • Column – placed on 12 numbers by placing a chip on one of the 3 areas labelled 2 to 1.
  • Dozen – placed on 12 numbers that includes 4 rows of 3 numbers. To make a dozen bet, a chip must be placed on one of the areas labelled, 1st 12, 2nd 12 or 3rd 12.
  • Red/Black – placed on either all the black numbers or all the red numbers, covering a total of 18 numbers. To make a red or black bet, a chip is placed on the unlabelled red or black areas.
  • Even/Odd – placed on either all of the even numbers, excluding 0, or all of the odd numbers. This bet also covers 18 numbers and is made by placing a chip on the areas labelled Even or Odd.
  • 1-18/19-36 – covers either the first 18 numbers, excluding 0, or the last 18. To make 1-18 or 19-36 bet, a chip is placed on the area labelled 1 to 18 or the area labelled 19 to 36.

Neighbour bet – A neighbour bet is made by placing chips on the roulette racetrack. These types of bets are sometimes called ‘section bets’ and ‘call bets’. They are one or more inside bets covering a series of five numbers as they appear on the roulette wheel. When you select the number you want to use for the neighbour bet, that bet will include that number and the two numbers on each side of it on the Roulette wheel. So, for example, if you wanted to play “21 and the neighbours”, your bet would include the two numbers on each side, so your bet would cover numbers 4,19, 21, 2 and 25.

Favourite Bets

Some Roulette games have a Favourite Bets feature that enable you to save frequently played bets and then place them automatically. To save a bet as a Favourite, place all your bets on the table and then open the Favourite Bets menu. Enter a name for your bet and press OK. To place one of your Favourite Bets, open the Favourite Bets menu and select a bet from your list. All chips are placed automatically. When you place a Favourite Bet, any bets already placed on the table are cleared.

Grab a seat. The next game is about to start.
