We predict Finland to be Euro 2020’s surprise package

Euro 2020 is around the corner and Finland are poised to be the tournament’s surprise package — according to our latest supercomputer study. 

After finishing second in their qualification group, Finland will be making their debut at the tournament. The debutants are set to leave a good mark on Euro 2020, as it’s predicted that Markku Kanerva’s Eagle Owls will reach the last 16 of the competition.

Finland, who enter the tournament as 500/1 outsiders in the Euro 2020 winner odds, are in Group B, together with Denmark, Russia and Belgium. 

However, they look set to exceed expectations, kicking their tournament off in style with a comfortable 3-1 win over Denmark in Copenhagen before clinching a vital 1-0 victory over Russia in St. Petersburg. 

Defeat to Belgium in the final group game will follow, granting Finland second in the group and qualification to the round of the last 16. It is there that Turkey will face them, edging a 1-0 victory at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam. 

Nonetheless, it will be great to see Finland added to the long list of overachievers from over the years at the European Championships.
