Milan v Manchester United Casumo Preview

Milan v Man United hangs in the balance

This one is unpredictable. A last ditch injury time goal by Simon Kjaer not only ruined our own prediction for the game, but blew this second leg wide open – which is always good for the neutrals!

United rule the roads

With these two European thoroughbreds meeting, it feels more like a Champions League semi final rather than a clash to decide a Europa League quarter finalist. United’s confidence here will come from the fact that they are unbeaten away from home, and truth be told performances at Old Trafford have been far slower and more predictable. AC Milan were unfortunate not to establish an early league in the first leg, but United might be forced to rue missed opportunities too with Harry Maguire and Dan James both missing big chances.

Still, the Italian Red Devils do have the away goal, and these tend to be crucial in Europe. Even if United stretch their unbeaten away run, a goalless draw does them no good, and a 1-1 forces the tie into extra time.

Milan 0-0 Manchester United: 19/2 or 10.5

Milan 1-1 Manchester United: 11/2 or 6.5

Henderson keen to make amends

Dean Henderson’s extended run in the first team continues due to David de Gea’s paternal leave absence. The Spaniard is now back in the UK but observing quarantine rules, and this gives his deputy a chance to make amends for his error that saw Kjaer’s header hit the back of the net. Hendo is young, learning fast and another clean sheet against West Ham will have done his confidence wonders.

Milan hope for Zlatan boost

Milan’s last outing was not as positive as United’s as Napoli got all three points at the San Siro. They struggled to impose themselves on the game and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s absence is being felt. You have to argue that his participation in this particular game will have a huge effect on proceedings. Should he start, Milan have a much bigger chance of going through. He loves nothing more than downing former clubs and rubbing it in their face too. He was one of Manchester United’s main men when they won their last European trophy and he wants to make sure his name remains in the history books.

The commanding stats

These might help you make your mind as the pendulum swings in Manchester United’s favour. They are unbeaten in 13 games, while Milan have played four home matches in a row without winning. Combine United’s strong away run and Milan’s lack of home comforts and you might have made your mind up about who will qualify for the Europa League quarter finals…
