No Zlatan no problem for Sweden in Euro 2020

No Zlatan? No problem! — Sweden will still thrive without their talisman

Sweden need not worry about the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimović this summer, as the nation are going to be the European Championships’ biggest overachievers — according to the latest supercomputer study carried out by bookmakers Casumo.

It seemed like the Swedes were dealt a major blow ahead of Euro 2020 when their star man suffered a knee injury playing for AC Milan earlier this month — ruling him out of the entire tournament.

However, Sweden, who will face Spain, Poland and Slovakia in Group E, outdone themselves in three separate simulations of the Euros, reaching the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and even winning the tournament – a feat that can be backed at 75/1 in the Euro 2020 winner odds.

The 39-year-old icon is ‘Mr. Reliable’ for his country, in an international career that spans over 20 years. Even at his ripe old age, he was set to be one of the first names in Janne Andersson’s 26-man squad.

Unless he goes on playing till he’s into his 40s, it’s fair to say that this would have been Ibrahimović’s last Euros  and football fans across the continent would have liked to have given him one last hurrah, but it appears that the side will be just fine without him. Zlatan is replaced by Jordan Larsson, son of the famous Henrik Larsson, one of Sweden’s finest players.

Our number crunchers ran the simulation of the Euros using a unique statistical model. We looked at a series of complex calculations involving fixtures, form, squads and more.
