Our predicted Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament: The defenders

Have you bagan picking your fantasy team or team of the tournament? Euro 2020 is almost here and most of the squads have been picked. We ran a super computer to predict the tournament over a number of runs to help you make the right choices this summer. It gave us everything from winners,the Euro 2020 Golden Boot odds  and even the overall Team of the Tournament.

 

Goalkeeper – Gianluigi Donnarumma

Reading the recent headlines it seems Gianluigi Donnarumma’s time at AC Milan is all but over. However, matters domestically are going to have little impact on his performances at Euro 2020. Italy are tipped to progress from Group A unbeaten and make it all the way to the final — where they are predicted to lose to 5/1 favourites France on penalties. 

Right-back – Giovanni Di Lorenzo

With Italy set to go all the way, it’s no surprise that Giovanni Di Lorenzo will join Donnarumma in the Team of the Tournament. The Napoli right-back will be an asset to  Roberto Mancini’s and well, we while all know the Italians know how to defend, look out for positive attacking play from this man

Centre-backs – Raphaël Varane and Benjamin Pavard

France were a defensive unit at Euro 2016, conceding just five goals across the course of the tournament. Expect more of the same from Les Blues at Euro 2020 as Didier Deschamps’ side are tipped to top their group, which contains Portugal and Germany, before going on to lift the trophy for a fourth time. 

Left-back – José Gayà

Luis Enrique’s Spain squad has left many people scratching their heads. No Real Madrid players made the cut with Sergio Ramos ruled out but the inclusion of Valencia’s José Gayà will prove a vital one. Like Di Lorenzo, the 26-year-old is just as good getting forward as he is at the back and he’s tipped to be crucial as Spain venture deep into the knockout rounds at Euro 2020.
