We’re welcoming the Year of the Ox at Casumo Casino

The Year of the Ox

We believe it’s safe to say that everyone was more than ready to welcome the New Year with open arms. After we already celebrated the arrival of 2021, it’s now also time to welcome the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Ox. They say that those born under the sign of the Ox tend to be ambitious and have great patience. We won’t confirm or deny. But what we can do is give you a bit more insight into this ancient Chinese tradition. And we’ll explain what our Chinese New Year-themed video slot is all about, that too.

History first

The Chinese calendar, known as Sheng Xiao, is represented by 12 animals, each of which is said to somehow affect your fortune for the year. These 12 animals are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. With the Ox being the second in order.

And 2021 happens to be the year of the Ox! It has characteristics of an animal known for its diligence, dependability, strength and determination. But how did all this tradition come to be?

There are quite a few adaptations of the original story, but all include a main man called the Jade Emperor. The most popular theory is that he brought together 12 animals and made them race against each other. He then created the calendar based on when each animal crossed the finish line. According to the most widespread myth, Rat tricked Ox into giving him a ride in his ear. Then, just as they arrived at the finish line, Rat jumped down and landed ahead of Ox, becoming first in the order of things. The Ox came in second due to its honest nature, poor gullible ting!

The zodiac cycle repeats itself every 12 years and is calculated according to the Chinese lunar calendar. This year it starts on Friday, February 12 2021.

If your sign is the Ox, you might be interested to know that according to ancient Chinese tradition, people born in this year tend to be ambitious and have great patience. They are not much influenced by others or the environment, but persist in doing things according to their own ideals and capabilities.
