Roland Garros

Roland Garros betting preview

Springtime in Paris

At the end of May, the clay-court season culminates with the second Grand Slam of the tennis tour — the French Open, Roland Garros. While the men’s tournament appears eminently predictable due to a certain Rafael Nadal, the women’s competition is very open.

In this guide, we will assess the favourites and contenders for both the men’s and women’s tournaments and take a look at the outright markets.

French Open Men’s 2021 tournament winner odds

Favourite — Rafael Nadal

Last year, Nadal claimed an astonishing 13th French Open title. He has dominated the red dirt in a way no other player has done in the Open Era. The Spaniard — who recently clinched a record-extending 12th Barcelona Open crown — has an aura on clay that makes him so intimidating.

Casumo has priced him at a short 9/10 to reign supreme in the French capital once again. Should he mount a successful title defence, it will be his 21st Grand Slam title, and it will move him past Roger Federer.

Contenders — Novak Djokovic

For a man that has swept all before him in the past few years, it is perhaps surprising that Novak Djokovic hasn’t experienced more success at Roland Garros. Indeed, his sole title came five years ago.

Djokovic — who has been a little out of sorts of late — was disappointed that he wasn’t able to compete at the Madrid Open, telling fans: “It’s been two years already. Hope to see you all next year!”

The Serbian still has a healthy lead at the top of the world rankings, and he is the second favourite with Casumo at 7/2 to triumph at Roland Garros.

Contenders — Andrey Rublev

Currently seventh in the ATP world rankings, Andrey Rublev has been a model of consistency. While he has excelled in the ATP 500 series events, he is still looking to go deeper in a Major. At the French Open last year, he reached the quarter-finals, which matched his showing at the Australian Open earlier this year.

Rublev has a monstrous forehand, and while he is valued at 20/1 to lift a maiden Slam, he is trending in the right direction, and he could be a serious contender.

French Open Women’s 2021 tournament winner odds

Favourite — Simona Halep

With 22 WTA titles, including two Majors, to her name, Simona Halep will be eager to add a second French Open title to her trophy cabinet. She is one of the most graceful players on the WTA Tour, and she glides so well on clay.

Halep feels at home on this surface, as she recently said in an interview: “The Philippe Chatrier court is my favourite court in the world.” She’s backed at 5/1 with Casumo to bag a third Grand Slam title.

Contenders — Ashleigh Barty

One of the most impressive players on the WTA Tour, Ashleigh Barty, at the time writing, had a 20-3 record for the 2021 season. The Australian has already previously tasted success at Roland Garros in 2019, and she’s hungry for more Slams.

Barty is strong on both wings, and her beautiful sliced backhand works a treat for her on clay. At present, she is trading as the second favourite with Casumo at 6/1 to win the French Open.

Contenders — Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek broke through the pack at last year’s French Open to lift her maiden Slam title and announce herself to the tennis world. She’s been making further excellent progress over the past six months. At this year’s edition of the French Open, the Pole will turn 20, and she will be eyeing a successful title defence.

Swiatek recently credited her father, Tomasz Swiatek, a former Olympic rower for Poland, for her exploits on the court. She said: “He was the one that really showed us how to be professional.”

Like Barty, Swiatek is currently priced at 6/1 with Casumo to win the French Open.
