Meet 80’s music loving Ruta

Sharing Insights: Live Dealers II – Ruta

Meet Ruta and take a peek into the world of Casumo’s Live Casino

In the second mini-series of our ‘Sharing Insights’ interviews, we’re chatting with the people who keep the Roulette wheels spinning at Casumo’s very own Live Casino Studio in Riga, Latvia. They’re a team of truly dedicated entertainers, committed to providing a top notch level of fun.

This week, we’re asking Ruta from our Live Dealer team a couple of questions. She tells us how she likes to listen to 80’s music on her way to work and shares her personal secret to beating any bad mood.

Hi Ruta!

Just before Ruta has to start her next shift on the Roulette table, we manage to pull her aside for a couple of questions.

Me: “Could you share the best thing about your job?”

Ruta: “I like that my job gives me the opportunity to talk to people from different countries and cultures. To get a sneak peek into their thoughts, memories and experiences – both happy and sad. When going to work I never know what conversations and surprises are awaiting me during the shift!”

Me: “If you would have to divide your time into percentages, how much of your time would you say that you’re improvising, on autopilot or scripted?”

Ruta: “This depends on the day, but if I’d have to make a guesstimate, I would say 55% autopilot, 43% improvisation and 2% scripted. The the game leading procedures I’ll do on autopilot 95% of the time and I also have a bunch of common phrases that I use. Conversations are 95% improvisation, the other 5% goes to me looking up the trending topics to talk about. Let’s call that…the inspiration percentage, haha.”

Me: “How do you prepare yourself for a live session? Do you ever practice in front of a mirror or with friends / family?”

Ruta: “On my way to work I like to listen to some music, preferable 80’s. Before I start I usually have a scan through my Facebook saved videos for some conversational topic inspiration. But when I just started hosting, I actually had a notebook with lots of things to use during sessions, like rhymes for numbers, jokes, game related songs, stuff like that. Now I rely more on what comes to mind on the spot. I don’t really like to practice in front of a mirror, mostly because if I have a topic in mind, it’s easier for me to improvise the conversation, it feels more natural that way.”

Me: “Any TV or big screen plans for yourself in the foreseeable future?”

Ruta: “Hmm, no, I don’t have any plans like that at the moment. Then again… you never know, right?!”

Me: “True that!”

Me: “Do you have any weird routines to keep you alert that you could tell us about?”

Ruta: “Nothing too weird I think! Something I do when I’m in a bad mood is try to lift up my own spirit right away when arriving at studio simply by putting a big smile on my face. I’ll start acting a little loud and crazy -and getting coffee is a must- and then what keeps me going is trying to lead the game a little differently. For example, I’ll start singing my common phrases or swap some words around, and it really helps!”

Me: “How would friends describe your personality?”

Ruta: “Closer friends would probably say that I can be fun, I can be quiet, and I can be very straightforward all at the same time. Some friends told me that they got the impression that I’m childish when they first met me, because I’m always smiling.”

Me: “A couple of big smiles a day keep the doctor away!”

Me: “We’re not your usual live casino brand, would you say that you feel connected to the look and feel of the studio and your outfits for example?”

Ruta: “Yes. I love that everything is colourful and not black and white. I love the possibility to get a bit more creative with make-up and hair colour, because I believe that creativity can really give a boost to the mood. The sense of a free atmosphere is great and it definitely helps me to do a better job. I feel like I can be myself and so can my colleagues. But most importantly, it doesn’t feel fake at all.”

Me: “I couldn’t agree with you more Ruta. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all of these questions right before your shift. Good luck “out there”, break a leg, smile your amazing smiles and most importantly, have fun!”
