Bundesliga 05/03/2022: Bayern Munich collide with Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig take on SC Freiburg
The gap at the top of the Bundesliga table is growing once again. However, we have some cracking matches to look forward to involving four of the top five. In this preview, we will look more closely at Saturday’s games – Bayern Munich v Bayer Leverkusen, and RB Leipzig v SC Freiburg. We will also have the latest match odds for you to pore over.
Bayern Munich forced to work hard for win over Eintracht Frankfurt
Bayern Munich rarely disappoint, although it’s hard to expect them to blow away teams week in week out. Indeed, there are times when they are not at their imperious best, but they find a way to secure all three points. Against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend, Bayern managed to breach a plucky Frankfurt, as Leroy Sane finished with aplomb following a wonderful pass by Joshua Kimmich.
Sane has now netted seven times in Germany’s top flight this season, and he has bettered his tally of six last campaign. It was Sane’s 24th career goal in the Bundesliga, and he has been a fabulous player. It seems incredible that he’s only 26, and he’s been around for a long time! Meanwhile, Bayern are eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich given positive Manuel Neuer injury update
Manuel Neuer could return to the fold for Bayern Munich after sitting out the past three matches for Bayern following knee surgery. Speaking about Neuer’s impending return, Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann said: “It’s a very good thing that we’ll be able to count on Manu again as soon as possible.” Neuer will get the skipper’s armband after Lewandowski stood in as captain against Frankfurt.
Bayern Munich v Bayer Leverkusen: A tale of past clashes
Bayern Munich v Bayer Leverkusen always makes for interesting viewing, and there are usually plenty of goals. But Leverkusen will dread visiting the Allianz Arena after they were on the receiving end of a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Bayern earlier in the season. Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry both scored a double, and if Leverkusen aren’t careful, they could be defeated heavily again.
Florian Wirtz looking to weave his magic against Bayer Leverkusen
Leverkusen had a fantastic season to date, and that is in part down to the mesmerising ability of Florian Wirtz. He has provided 10 assists from 22 appearances, and he can befuddle defences with his eye for a pass. If Bayern are going to win, the key will be to keep Wirtz quiet.
RB Leipzig still on track for a top-four finish
Although there is a high player turnover rate at RB Leipzig, that doesn’t seem to faze them. They just rebuild and make themselves a competitive outfit each season. As things stand, Leipzig are fourth in the Bundesliga table. More importantly, they have found form at just the right time.
Last weekend, they clinched a 1-0 victory away to Bochum. Christopher Nkunku hit the winner, and it means that Leipzig have lost just one of their past six matches in all competitions. And that is just what you need when you are juggling league and Europa League commitments.

Freiburg are currently level on points with Leipzig, and they are in fifth spot, with only goal difference keeping Leipzig in the top four. And they will be happy with their recent form, as they have lost just one of their past five Bundesliga matches.
RB Leipzig v SC Freiburg: Unlocking the vault on past clashes
We could be in for a cracker at the weekend, and as the table seems to suggest, there isn’t much separating the two sides. Both teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw as Jimmy Woo-Yeong cancelled out Emil Forsberg’s opener from the spot for Leipzig.
It may therefore be hard picking up a winner. We know about the threat that Leipzig possesses through Nkunku and Forsberg, and Freiburg may well have to soak up a lot of pressure. It seems quite hard picking a winner for this one, so a draw seems a safer prediction!
