Reading FC’s cruise control: activated

That does sound like an over-confident headline, but Reading have really hit the groove and head into the away clash at Derby on Wednesday night full of positive vibes after some excellent results.

The Huddersfield defeat feels like a long time ago now, and following a string of three successive victories, the Royals are cruising.

Middlesbrough are never an easy outfit, but Reading played well, dominated the game in terms of possession and attempts, and merited the slender victory. Importantly, a clean sheet was kept, which become a top priority for Paunovic’s side.

The three points lifted Reading to ninth spot and the next game comes at a right time. Derby away will not be an easy game as that club is now desperate to gain points on the board following their points deduction after entering administration.

Wayne Rooney has vowed to fight on and Reading must be careful here as these clubs tend to behave like a coiled spring. Yes, they are bottom of the table, but their league position is deceptive due to their points deduction. The Rams are indeed unbeaten at home and their support will be desperate to ensure relegation is avoided.

Centre back Curtis Davies has been in fruitful form for Derby, and he is the club’s leading scorer with two goals. John Swift continues to lead the line for the Royals, and it was his assist that led to Allen Halilovic’s match-winner at the SCL stadium. Set pieces might be Rooney’s weapon of choice as he looks to upset the odds on Wednesday night.

You feel Reading are going from strength to strength and Paunovic is happy with the progress made after a somewhat tricky start to the campaign. He told Reading FC’s twitter channel:

“The whole team showed great spirit given the injury circumstances. Having players that are coachable, intelligent and want to improve…it’s a pleasure to work with a team like that.”

The positive vibes continue under Paunovic and we can’t help but back Reading for another victory. A clean sheet is a must, so we’re going for the correct score prediction of: Derby 0-2 Reading FC which is priced at 12/1 or 13.00 with Casumo: Reading’s official club partners.
