Serie A 22/01-23/01/22: Inter Milan and AC Milan both in action as title race intensifies

With every passing match in Serie A, the sense of importance that each fixture carries rises. We may not have expected AC Milan to slip up at Spezia, but upsets happen. Anyway, in this preview, we will look ahead to two crucial matches that could affect the top of the table. This includes AC Milan v Juventus, and we will refer to the latest odds.

Inter Milan still keeping their noses out in front

While many of Europe’s top leagues appear to be akin to a title march for some teams, Serie A is still too tight to call. At the moment, Inter Milan are just two points clear of bitter rivals AC Milan after 21 games played. Although the Nerazzurri fired blanks against Atalanta on their last outing, they have only tasted defeat once this season.

That was in October after a crushing 3-1 loss at the hands of Lazio. Although Inter were forced to settle for a share of the spoils against Atalanta, it was a pulsating game that provided plenty of chances. Samir Handanovic came to his side’s rescue, as he pulled off two incredible saves – one from Luis Muriel, and the other from Matteo Pessina.

Martin Satriano transfer announcement made by Inter Milan

At this time of the year, thoughts quickly turn to the transfer window. Usually, there are more loan deals than permanent ones, and Inter have confirmed they have loaned out Martin Satriano to Brest. The Uruguayan striker will spend the rest of the season at the Ligue 1 outfit, and hopefully, he will get some regular game time under his belt.

Venezia in desperate need of inspiration ahead of Inter Milan clash

Venezia will face some hard-hitting questions over the next few weeks, and they are in danger of being relegated. Inter Milan are unlikely to show any mercy to a side that is 17th in Serie A, and just two points above the drop zone. They are waiting to claim their first top-flight victory since they beat Bologna 1-0 back in November.

AC Milan left to rue surprise Spezia defeat

In Serie A, you can never take anything for granted. But as far as Milan are concerned, they will be disappointed they let a lead slip against Spezia. After scoring on the stroke of half-time through Rafael Leao, the Rossoneri were pegged back when Kevin Agudelo equalised for the visitors before Emmanuel Gyasi netted a late winner. Milan will have to regroup quickly.

Tickets flying off the shelves for Juventus clash

As you can imagine, when Juventus roll into town, there’s always a huge sense of anticipation. It is arguably one of the biggest matches in Serie A, and historically, it has always carried a lot of significance. Milan have announced there will be a limited number of tickets on sale.

There will be some tickets put on sale over the course of the next three days, but fans will have to be quick to get their hands on them. And Milan will hope to put on a show for their supporters, and keep themselves on the heels of table-toppers Inter.

Milan, however, will need to tighten up at the back, as they have already shipped 25 goals to date this season. And Sunday’s opponents Juventus are in the ascendancy after some crucial wins of late, including the dramatic 4-3 victory over Roma earlier this month. Juve are fifth in the table, as things stand, and a mere point off the top four.

Massimiliano Allegri reaches special milestone with Juventus

Against Udinese, Massimiliano Allegri took charge of his 300th Serie A game, and it was certainly a very special moment. Allegri has had many a highlight during his time in Turin, and a 2-0 victory over Udinese last weekend brought up his 208th win as Juve boss.

Allegri now boasts the highest win percentage of Juve bosses who have been in charge of the Bianconeri for 300 games or more (69%). Juve will now harbour ambitions of a top-four finish, and the Milan clash should be a yardstick of how far they have come. When the two sides met at the Allianz Stadium earlier this season, it ended in a 1-1 draw.
