Bundesliga Preview

Bundesliga: Levekusen and Dortmund lock horns, Bayern make RB Leipzig trip

It has been a fast and frantic start in the Bundesliga. And after going for a two-week break, we are delighted it is back. There are some crunch matches to tuck into this week, and we will preview Bayer Leverkusen v Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig v Bayern Munich. We will also check in on the latest match odds.

Bayer Leverkusen scoring goals for fun

Bayer Leverkusen have been in scintillating form over the past few weeks. Prior to the international break, they routed Borussia Monchengladbach before demonstrating their ruthless once again with an impressive 4-21 victory over Augsburg. Indeed, Leverkusen have been scoring at a rate of knots, and they will take some stopping.

Patrick Schick, who made a name for himself at Euro 2020 with the Czech Republic as they reached the quarter-finals, has netted twice in his last two outings for Leverkusen. He has found his shooting boots this season, and he will need to be on top form if Leverkusen are going to get a result against Dortmund.

Odilon Kossounou ready for Erling Haaland challenge

Erling Haaland is a handful for any defender. But Odilon Kossounou, who previously faced Haaland in the Champions League, while plying his trade with Club Brugge has the lowdown on Haaland, describing him as a good physical striker. Haaland netted four times against Brugge last season, and Kossounou will hope he has learned lessons from that wretched evening.

Erling Haaland’s scoring feat put under the microscope

While Borussia Dortmund boasts the luxury of riches in their squad, there’s no player quite Haaland. The 21-year-old Norwegian hitman has been breathtakingly brilliant for Dortmund, and he has become a penalty box predator. Last season, Haaland scored 16 of his 27 goals from the inside penalty area. This season, he has already netted six times in all competitions, and there’s plenty more to come.

Florian Wirtz has world at his feet at Bayer Leverkusen

Already prophesised as the “second Kai Havertz”, Florian Wirtz has the world at his feet. At the tender age of 18, the midfielder has already caught the eye this season. He scored in the 4-1 win over Augsburg last month after coming off the bench, and he could make an impact against Dortmund if given the chance.

Bayern Munich settling into their stride under Julian Nagelsmann

After a tense opening-day draw against Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayern Munich haven’t looked back since. They chalked up a record-breaking 12-0 victory in the German Cup against Bremer SV, and in their last game before the international break, they put Hertha Berlin to the sword with an emphatic 5-0 victory.

Robert Lewandowski, of course, has been integral, and against Hertha Berlin, he netted a treble. The Polish forward is a joy to watch when he is in full flow, and he has been well backed up by the likes of the jet-heeled Serge Gnabry.

Meanwhile, Marcel Sabitzer is in line to face his old club after Bayern signed him from RB Leipzig. The acquisition will give more strength and depth to Bayern’s midfield, and he averages a goal involvement every 186 minutes. Sabitzer will also give Bayern an extra dimension out wide, and he bears similar hallmarks to Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

RB Leipzig v Bayern Munich: How recent matches have unfolded

In more recent times, there has been little separating RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. Last season, Bayern pinched a 1-0 win away at Leipzig thanks to a Leon Goretzka strike. Whereas in the corresponding fixture at the Allianz Arena, the teams shared out an entertaining 3-3 draw.

In that game, Jamal Muisala was on target, and his emergence has been well received at Bayern. He has pace, and is direct in the final third, and he’s one of these players you can’t take your eyes off. Nagelsmann clearly sees something in him, and RB Leipzig will have to be on guard.
