Switzerland vs Spain – Euro 2020 Betting Tips

Switzerland and Spain are playing each other in the first quarterfinal on the 2nd of July 2021 at 21:30 IST in the Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The Swiss after the epic win over France will have their tails of toppling any team while Spain are slowly returning back to old ways.

Switzerland Form and Team News

You could argue that the Czech Republic caused the upset of the season with their win over the Dutch, But the Swiss have deemed their win over France to be well over the Czech win. Switzerland had to come back from two goals down to equalize which showed the unshakeable grit and determination of this team, eventually winning on penalties. Switzerland had to win the last group game against the Turks which they did quite magnificently beating them three goals to one. Switzerland came undone against a dominant Italy in the second game not being to replicate anything they did during the first game. They drew in the first game against Wales. Switzerland after the loss in the second game has managed to score four points thus would be hoping to continue to build on this momentum. After the win over World Champions France, Switzerland could be well on the path of glory, they are now facing former champions Spain in the quarterfinal.

Coach Petkovic after the seven-match hiccup where the Swiss were not able to win any games had managed to turn around the form and turn them into the winning machine, the last match showed exactly what the Swiss are capable of doing. He would hope that the team builds on this and wins against the Spanish side and throw in their hat for contention into the next round.  Seferovic was just unbelievable in the last game against France netting in two goals with the likes of captain Xhaka too playing brilliantly in the middle. Sommer finally saved Mbappe’s penalty to send the French packing.

Spain Form and Team News

Spain finally turned up against Croatia with full determination to just win and nothing. The Croatians still managed to force extra time after coming back from two goals down to equalize in the dying minutes, but Spain still had enough legs to net in two more goals to eventually win the thrilling round of 16 game. Spain let loose in the last group game against Slovakia and scored the highest number of goals for any team in a match. They netted as many as five goals against a hapless Slovakian defense and could’ve added more given they did not miss the penalty. They qualified with four points and are now facing Switzerland in the Round of eight. Spain did manage to keep producing dismal performances game after game and the second game was nothing different. They had pretty much everything in their control but when it comes to the attacking third, they are flattering big time. Spain had to be content with two draws in the first two group games. They now need to keep doing what they did right in the last game and build on the momentum.

Former Barcelona superstar manager Luis Enrique had taken over the coaching duties of the Spanish national team some time ago. He has so far been decent with his strategies and team selections. He has a very young side at his hands which can be made into the world-beating side that Spain in the early 2010s’ were in some years time. This team has the potential to reach that point. One major setback is that their talisman captain Sergio Ramos would miss the tournament. Morata finally managed to find the back of the net, Ferran Torres was splendid in the last game with the likes of Azpilicueta and Sarabia. Bosquets along with Pedri and Koke were brilliant in the middle as well.

Our Tipster’s Angle

The Knockouts are here and Spain cannot afford to be casual anymore and they seem to have realized it in the last game when they turned as a different squad, while the Swiss will be in an all-time high after their win over France as well. The best team on the park on the given day will end up as the winners. Spain look set to go the distance while the Swiss need to keep their head down and don’t be complacent. They look to cause some more upsets as well.

Tip 1: Total Goals over 2.5

Switzerland have been part of some high-scoring matches off-late. They have had eight games in the last ten matches where the total goal count was over 2.5. Playing at home across competitions, Switzerland have had four of their last five games have also seen over 2.5 goals in total. Spain on the other hand have also been involved in similar matches off-late. Two of the last three matches Spain have played have had the above satisfied. Their last three away matches played also had the total goals to be over 2.5. With the likes of Seferovic, Shaqiri and co. in the mix and Morata and co. on the other side, it’s quite likely this match could well have over 2.5 goals in total. The odds for total goals to be over 2.5 according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 2.06.

Tip 2: Both teams to score

In the last four matches played by Switzerland across competitions, three of those have had both teams score. While playing at home, three of the last four matches Switzerland have played across competitions have had both teams scoring. Two of the last three matches that Spain have been part of have had the above condition being satisfied. Playing away, four of the last five matches involving Spain have had both teams score. Two of their last three head to head matches have also had the above condition satisfied. While playing with the Swiss as the host, their last head to head match has also had both teams scoring, so it’s most likely both teams might end up scoring. The odds for Both Teams to score according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 1.92.

Conclusion

Both teams are in terrific form coming into this match and the head to head record is also close, this match would surely be one we cannot afford to miss by any chance. Summarising on a couple of bets from above:

  1. Total goals over 2.5 @ 2.06
  2. Both teams to score @ 1.92
