Bundesliga 05-06/02/22: Bayern Munich host RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund tangle with Bayer Leverkusen

After a winter break, the Bundesliga resumes this weekend, and there are some fascinating games coming up. In particular, the two matches we are looking forward to are Bayern Munich v RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund v Bayer Leverkusen. Both matches will have implications on the title and top-four races, so read our preview below. We will also include the latest match odds.

Bayern Munich keeping their noses in front

As things stand, Bayern Munich holds all the cards in the Bundesliga title race. Bayern are top of the table, and they are six points clear of their nearest challengers. Bar a surprise 2-1 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach towards the end of last month, Julian Nagelsmann’s men have been near impeccable.

In their last two games before the winter break, Bayern won at a canter against Cologne and Hertha Berlin, respectively, scoring four goals in both fixtures. Bayern, for the most part, have been terrifying, and while they still have a lot of work to do to seal the title, they are doing their best to sprint towards the finishing line.

Robert Lewandowski looking to keep up scintillating form

Robert Lewandowski is currently streets ahead in the race to be crowned the Bundesliga’s top scorer this season. So far, he has netted 23 times this season in Germany’s top-flight division. Recently, he hit a hat-trick against Cologne to bring him up 300 goals in the Bundesliga. He may have missed out on the Ballon d’Or award, but he’s just sensational.

RB Leipzig eager to stay on the winning trail

RB Leipzig have been one of the most improved teams in the Bundesliga this season, and they will be eager to make a nuisance of themselves against Bayern. Leipzig are currently sixth in the Bundesliga table, just three points off the top four. Bayern would be foolish to underestimate them.

Julian Nagelsmann looking forward to a Leipzig reunion

Nagelsmann may have only been with Leipzig for a couple of years, but he certainly had a big influence on their style of football. Also, he knew how to polish a diamond, and although Dayot Upamecano joined him at Bayern, his old club replaced him with Mohamed Simakan, who has proven to be very solid.

Erling Haaland reveals his one big wish

Erling Haaland’s record for Borussia Dortmund is extraordinary, as he has hit 80 goals in 79 appearances for the Bumblebees. And the Norwegian hitman has revealed he has one wish for his career, and that’s to stay injury-free. In an interview, he said: “That’s the most important thing. That being said, [injuries] only make me more hungry for success.”

Staying injury-free for the remainder of the campaign will be key if Dortmund are going to claw the title from Bayern’s grasp. The figures Haaland has been putting up are incredible, and when you consider he has missed six games through injury, 16 Bundesliga goals this season is a fine return.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen have been very fluid moving forward, and they have hit seven goals in their past two outings. While eight points are separating Leverkusen and Dortmund, a win for Leverkusen would certainly give them hope of overhauling Dortmund and finishing second.

Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Leverkusen: A look back on past encounters

It’s fair to say that matches between Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen have provided a bucket load of goals, so we could be in for a cracker. Earlier in the season, Dortmund claimed a 4-3 win in a pulsating encounter. Haaland helped himself to a double on that day.

Meanwhile, last season at Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund romped to a 3-1 win over Leverkusen, and once again, Haaland scored a brace. Dortmund know this is a must-win game in the context of the title race, and it would be a surprise if they slip up.
