NFL 08-09/01/22: Philadelphia Eagles host Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots finish season at Miami Dolphins
There was plenty of drama last weekend, as a few more teams sealed their spots in the playoffs, including the Cincinnati Bengals, who upset the Kansas City Chiefs. We will look ahead to three games on the final weekend. These include the Philadelphia Eagles v Dallas Cowboys, and the Miami Dolphins v New England Patriots. Check out our thoughts below.
Philadelphia Eagles want to finish on a high after sealing playoff spot
While the hard work has been done, there will be no letting up in the Eagles camp. Despite sealing a playoff spot, the Eagles will want to wrap up the season by seeing off the Dallas Cowboys. The clash on Saturday evening represents a meeting between the top two in the NFC East.
Heading into the last round of the games, the Eagles boast a 9-7 record, while the Cowboys are 11-5. However, the Cowboys have outscored the Eagles, notching up 479 points, 61 points more than their rivals.

Jonathan Taylor achieves special milestone with Philadelphia Eagles
Last weekend, Jonathan Taylor etched himself into NFL and Eagles folklore. In racking up more than 2,000 scrimmage yards, as well as 20 touchdowns, he became the youngest player, at 22 years, 348 days old, to achieve that feat. Take a bow young man!
Dallas Cowboys eager to put Arizona Cardinals defeat to the back of their minds
After a four-game winning streak, the Cowboys came up short against the Cardinals last weekend, as they slipped to a 25-22 loss. There have been some excellent performances of late, and they will be desperate to prove why they deserve to be crowned the NFC East champions.
Green Bay Packers leave their rivals trailing in their wake
The Packers have been almost unstoppable at times this season, and they boast one of the best records across the NFL, as they are currently 13-3 from their 16 games. Earlier this week, the Packers proved too strong for the Minnesota Vikings, as they ran out emphatic 37-10 winners.
Aaron Rodgers stakes strong case to be named the MVP
There is always a sense of pride in being named the MVP (Most Valued Player) in the NFL. Rodgers, after another terrific season, has certainly made his case to collect another MVP award, In addition, the Packers will be the ones to watch in the playoffs. And Rodgers has poured cold water on the rumor that he will leave the Packers anytime soon.
When quizzed over his future, Rodgers was unequivocal with his answer. He said: “The grass is greener where you water it. I really believe that.” Of course, at the end of the season, the Packers and Rodgers will discuss his contract, but the Packers can’t afford to let him leave.

Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions could well be lambs to the slaughter against the Packers. After a 51-29 mauling at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday, the Lions won’t want to end the season with a whimper. However, they shouldn’t expect any sympathy from the Packers!
New England Patriots in good shape after cementing playoff berth
While there are a few teams whose playoff chances hang in the balance, the same can’t be said of the Patriots. Against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Patriots were rampant as they soared to a 50-10 victory. The defeat to the Colts just before Christmas was their only blemish. Nevertheless, the Patriots have qualified for the playoffs as the first wild card.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s opponents, the Dolphins, saw their playoff chances torpedo after a 34-3 defeat to the Tennessee Titans. It was demoralizing as the Dolphins had put themselves into contention with seven wins on the trot. Now they will only have pride to play for when they take on the Patriots.
