Belgium vs Russia – Euro 2020 Betting Tips

The No-1 ranked FIFA team takes the field for the first time in this years’ EURO against the Russians at the Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg on the 13th of June 2021 at 00:30 IST. Belgium are one of the top contenders for the title this time while Russia would hope to replicate their world cup showing last time around.

Belgium Form and Team News

Belgium were one of the two teams who finished the qualification round having won all the games they played. After the ten games, Belgium stormed past all the opponents to win all the ten games in the process. Naturally, due to that Belgium managed to finish as the number one team from Group I. Belgium were also the highest-scoring team in the qualification rounds scoring as many as 40 goals while conceding just three goals along the way. They have also won seven games in the last ten games they have played over competitions. Belgium given the number one status they presently carry in the FIFA rankings come into the championship with nothing less than a title-winning campaign in their minds to cap it off and avenge the World Cup semifinal loss to a certain extent.

Roberto Martinez, the coach of the Belgium National Football Team after having spent so many years in the camp would know the players in and out. He would need to produce the results nevertheless with the sort of players at his disposal with the current setup widely regarded as the golden generation of Belgium football history. Eden Hazard, Lukaku, Mertens, Benteke and co. complete the attack line. The mercurial Kevin De Bruyne, Thorgan Hazard, Tielemans and Carrasco would cover up the midfield. Alderwield, Meunier, Vertonghen, Vermaelen, and Denayer would be in defense while the likes of Courtois would keep the goal as always.

Russia Form and Team News

Russia had a brilliant set of Qualification matches where they finished second in the group to just the Belgium team who finished the group toppers. They were part of Group I and in the ten games played, Russia managed to win eight of those while losing to just Belgium in both home and away matches. They also scored as many as 33 goals in the process while conceding just seven goals. Their recent record is pretty bad considering their qualification round antics. They have won just a meager three games in the last ten games played. Russia played a good brand of football in the home World Cup last time around and would hope to continue to build upon that showing. They are playing the number one side in the world presently in their respective tournament opener on Sunday.

Coach Stanislav Cherchesov would’ve been happy seeing his team’s performance in the qualification rounds but their present form is not the best. The headman would like the team to keep it simple and build on the positive aspects they show in the games that follow. Dzyuba, Sobolev, Anton Zabolotnyi and Mostovoy are the attackers in the Russian side. Golovin, Aleksei Miranchuk, Cheryshev, Zhirkov along with others complete the midfield. Mario Fernades, Igor Diveev, Karavaev, Dzhikiya and Kudrayashov are the defenders while Safanov will probably keep the goal.

Our Tipster’s Angle

Belgium are the favorites to win this given their present form and Russia seems to be going through a lean patch. Belgium also managed to win both of their matches against the Russians in the qualification round which would give them the extra edge going into this match.

Tip 1: Total Goals over 2.5

Six of the last ten matches that Belgium have played across competitions have had the total goals to be over 2.5. While playing at home, Belgium have had three of their last five matches where the total goals have been over 2.5. In the Qualification rounds, Belgium have had eight of the ten total matches where the above condition was satisfied. In the case of Russia, five of the last seven matches played across competitions, have had the total goals to be over 2.5. Playing away across competitions, Four of their last five matches also had the total goals to be over 2.5. Out of their last three head to head matches, all three matches had the total goals to be over 2.5. So it’s quite likely the match will have over 2.5 goals. According to the Casumo Sportsbook, the odds for the total goals to be over 2.5 is 2.07.

Tip 2: Both teams to score

In the last six matches played by Belgium across competitions, four of those have had both teams to score. While playing at home, three of the last five matches Belgium have played across competitions have had both teams scoring. In the qualification rounds, Belgium had both of the last two matches where both teams have scored. Four of the last five matches Russia have been part of have had the above condition being satisfied. Playing away, all of their last three matches Russia was part of has turned out to have both teams scoring. All three of the last three head to head matches between the two sides also had yielded the condition as mentioned above, so it’s most likely both teams might end up scoring. The odds for Both Teams to score according to the Casumo Sportsbook is 1.96.

Belgium is most likely to come out winners in their opening game of the championship while Russia would need to produce a special performance to stop the Belgians. Lots of goals expected given the number of goals both teams scored during the qualification rounds. Summarising on a couple of bets from above:

  1. Total goals over 2.5 @ 2.07
  2. Both teams to score @ 1.96
